Overview

Assist in the implementation of protection activities for migrants and refugees.

You have:

  • School diploma with five years of relevant experience.
  • Bachelor's degree in political or social sciences or related fields with three years of relevant professional experience.
  • Master’s degree in political or social sciences or related fields is an advantage.
  • Experience in liaising with governmental authorities, national/international institutions, UN agencies and NGOs.
  • Experience working with migrants, refugees, internally displaced persons, victims of trafficking and other vulnerable groups.
  • Prior work experience with international humanitarian organizations or similar is an advantage.
  • Fluency in Polish, Ukrainian and/or Russian is required.
  • Basic English is necessary.
  • Driving licence is needed.

Contract

This is a G-5 contract. This kind of contract is known as General Service and related categories. It is normally only for nationals. It usually requires 5 years of experience, depending on education. More about G-5 contracts.

The conflict in Ukraine has led to the overspill of over a million forcibly displaced persons to Poland. As migratory flows continue unabated, IOM is boosting its capacity in Poland to provide multi-sectoral assistance to respond to urgent emerging humanitarian needs in a dynamic context.

Under overall supervision of Field Coordinator, and the direct supervision of Field Protection Coordinator, the successful candidate will provide support in the implementation of protection activities in the assigned site(s) in close coordination with other protection partners, stakeholders, and authorities. Staff members in field-based positions might be required to be mobile.

Qualifications

Education

  • School diploma with five years of relevant experience; or,
  • Bachelor's degree in political or social sciences, International Relations, Development Studies, Migration Studies, Human Rights, Law or related fields from an accredited academic institution with three years of relevant professional experience.
  • Master’s degree in above fields is an advantage.

    Experience:

  • Experience in liaising with governmental authorities, national/international institutions, United Nations agencies and non-governmental organizations;
  • Experience in working with migrants, refugees, internally displaced persons, victims of trafficking and other vulnerable groups; and,
  • Prior work experience with international humanitarian organizations, non-government or government institutions/organization in a multi-cultural setting is an advantage

    Skills

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills in a multi-cultural setting;
  • Strong organizational, facilitation, communication, writing and presentations skills;
  • Proficient in a Microsoft Office environment and office software packages. Knowledge of spreadsheet and database packages, experience in handling of web-based management systems;
  • Strong work ethics and commitment to humanitarian principles;
  • Knowledge of data protection and case management practices;
  • Ability to conduct assessments, develop and implement case plans, and follow up on cases;
  • Driving licence.
  • Background in international law is an asset.

    Languages:

  • Fluency in Polish, Ukrainian and/or Russian is required.
  • Basic English is necessary.

Responsibilities

  1. Assist in the implementation and monitoring of project activities.
  2. Retrieve, compile, summarize, analyse, and present information/data on specific project topics.
  3. Assist in Drafting status reports, identifying shortfalls in delivery, bring them to the attention of the supervisor and suggest remedial actions.
  4. Assist in Drafting correspondence on project issues; prepare and update reports, briefing notes, graphics, statistical tables, presentation and other forms of documentation.
  5. Respond to complex information requests and inquiries; set up and maintain files/records; organize meetings, workshops and training sessions;
  6. Participate in meetings and conferences; assist in coordinating implementation activities with local authorities, partners, United Nation agencies, intergovernmental and non-governmental organizations, donors and other stakeholders relevant to the project.
  7. Assist in monitoring work of implementing partners and report non-compliances to the supervisor.
  8. Assist in Providing guidance/training to new/junior staff.
  9. Perform other related duties as assigned.
  10. Conduct vulnerability assessments with migrants and refugees and provide comprehensive case management to the most vulnerable persons coordinating access to rights and services.
  11. Provide migrants and refugees with information and contribute to the development of leaflets, and outreach messaging for the correct dissemination of information.
  12. Organize information meetings and other community awareness raising sessions for beneficiaries.
  13. Contribute to protection services mapping and work on protection referral pathways.
  14. Cooperate and navigate work with internal units like MHPSS, Basic Needs and LMI.
  15. Draft correspondence on protection issues, briefing notes, graphics, statistical tables, and other forms of documentation.
  16. Report on situation and specific protection needs of people at the reception centers and other spots within assigned site(s).
  17. Participate in meetings and conferences; maintain effective coordination with shelters’ coordinators, local authorities, partners, intergovernmental and non-governmental organizations and other stakeholders relevant to assignment.
  18. Actively participate in meetings with protection and case management actors to discuss case management and collect feedback on existing risks, challenges, and gaps in service provision for protection cases.
  19. Provide inputs for the development of Standard Operations Procedures (SOP) and concept papers and provide general support for the development of new projects.
  20. Implement measures to ensure confidentiality when handling personal information and data of migrants and refugees.
  21. Perform other related duties as assigned.
