Organizational Setting

The massive influx in 2017 forced more than 650,000 people from Myanmar to leave their country and settled down in two southern most upazilas of Cox’s Bazar district. FAO in collaboration with the government and under “SAFE Plus” UN Partner consortium began serving the host communities, who are affected by the influx, in building their livelihoods and skill development opportunities in Cox’s Bazar from October 2017. To support continuation of the crisis response interventions in agricultural livelihoods, DFID agreed to fund the SAFE Plus project’s livelihood component which is implemented primarily by the FAO. The funds will be used to promoting economic inclusion and strengthening local production, supply chains and markets, as well as development of private sector partnership across the sub-sectors of crop production and fisheries.
