Overview

Support program and coordination activities at country office and field level

You have:

  • Minimum age: 25 years old. Nationals of the country of assignment are not eligible, except the assignments in Headquarters duty stations.
  • Bachelor Degree in one of the following: Social sciences, public administration, law, public health and nutrition, international relations, business administration or other related disciplines.
  • 2 years of relevant professional work at the national and/or international levels in programme/project development, planning, implementation, monitoring, evaluation or administration.
  • Training/experience in emergency response management highly desirable.
  • Language skills: English (Mandatory), Level - Fluent.
  • Language skills: Arabic (Optional), Level - Working Knowledge.

Contract

This is a UNV International Specialist contract. This kind of contract is known as International UN Volunteer. It is normally internationally recruited only. More about UNV International Specialist contracts.

Description of task

Under the direct supervision of the Chief Field Operations, the UNV will provide support on a range of programme and coordination issues, both in the field and at country office level. Her/his tasks will include but will not be limited to the following:

· Contributes towards the preparation of the field Situation Analysis by compiling data, analysing

and evaluating information.

· Organise, coordinate and document all meetings; specifically, responsible for organising

bimonthly Programme Information Meetings with FOs and sections. Manage related action

point matrix, ensure circulation, monitoring and follow up with relevant persons to insure

completion of identified issues.

· Liaise with Chiefs of Field Offices (CFO) on programme management, implementation and operational matters to identify potential gaps in staffing/operations/programmes and provide additional support where

necessary. Monitor information received from FOs on local emergency and security situation

to inform relevant persons and follow up with sections to ensure response.

· Participates in intersectoral collaboration. Assists in development of appropriate communication and information strategy to support and/or advocate project development.

· Undertakes field visits to monitor projects, as well as conducts periodic project reviews with

field offices, counterparts and other partners. Proposes and/or undertakes action on

operational procedures affecting project management and implementation. Provides technical

advice and assistance to field offices

· Together with Chief of Field Operations, Sections and Field Office staff, identifies training

needs and objectives for the purpose of capacity building, project sustainability, as well as

promotion and advocacy of field office staff.

· Coordinates with the Chief Field Operations on issues related to supply and non-supply

assistance and activities ensuring proper and timely UNICEF and government accountability.

· Monitor access issues at a field level and work in partnership with External Relations Officer to

conduct analysis of access for goods and persons on a monthly bases. Submit monthly reports

to OCHA and attend relevant working group meetings when necessary.

· Supports the preparation of status reports required for management from Field Operations,

Board, donors, budget review, programme analysis, annual reports, etc.

· When working with (including supervising) national staff or (non-)governmental counterparts,

including Implementing Partners (IPs), the incumbent is strongly encouraged to set aside

dedicated time for capacity development through coaching, mentoring and formal and on-the job training;

· Any other work-related duties that may be assigned from time to time.

Furthermore, UN Volunteers are encouraged to integrate the UN Volunteers programme mandate within their assignment and promote voluntary action through engagement with communities in the course of their work. As such, UN Volunteers should dedicate a part of their working time to some of the following suggested activities:

· Strengthen their knowledge and understanding of the concept of volunteerism by reading relevant UNV and external publications and take active part in UNV activities (for instance in events that mark International Volunteer Day);

· Be acquainted with and build on traditional and/or local forms of volunteerism in the host country;

· Provide annual and end of assignment self- reports on UN Volunteer actions, results and opportunities.

· Contribute articles/write-ups on field experiences and submit them for UNV publications/websites, newsletters, press releases, etc.;

· Assist with the UNV Buddy Programme for newly-arrived UN Volunteers;

· Promote or advise local groups in the use of online volunteering, or encourage relevant local individuals and organizations to use the UNV Online Volunteering service whenever technically possible.

Required degree level:
