Purpose of the internship

The Social Policy section of UNICEF Somalia based in Nairobi, Kenya is recruiting an intern to support the setting up of the knowledge management of the section, organize the section online collaboration space and prepare standard introduction materials for new staff on the section work and Somalia.

Role & responsibilities

The selected intern will be responsible for supporting the Chief of Social Policy on setting up the Social Policy online collaboration space in MS Team, identify core data and information that regularly needs to be updated, collect data and documentation from team members, classifying it and store it. Based on the information collected, the intern will assist the Chief of Social Policy on preparing introduction materials for new UNICEF staff joining Somalia.

Main outputs

During the 3 months of internship, the successful candidate is expected to:

  • Support the Chief of Social Policy to set up and populate with key information the section MS Team space.
  • Develop a standardize set of templates to collect key information on Social Policy counterparts, collect the core information and store it on the designated space in MS Team.
  • Collect, classify, store and produce an inventory of all key statistical data, articles and reports accumulated by the Social Policy section over the last 5 years.
  • Prepare an information package and a PowerPoint Presentation on Somalia for new UNICEF staff coming to Somalia
  • Prepare an information package and a PowerPoint Presentation on the work of UNICEF Social Policy section for new UNICEF staff coming to Somalia

Work relationships

The successful candidate will be supervised by the Chief of Social Policy and work closely with the section Policy Programme Associate. As part of her work, the candidate will engage and interact closely with all Social Policy team in Nairobi and across Somalia.

Qualifications

  • Should be female, with a first-level university degree (bachelors) or be enrolled in a undergraduate programme in Development Studies, Development Economics or Social Sciences, or a related field.
  • Have no immediate relatives (e.g. father, mother, brother, sister) working in any UNICEF office, plus no other relatives in the line of authority that the intern will report to.
  • Fluency in English and Somali, both written and oral, is required.
  • Knowledge of relevant computer systems and applications; excellent knowledge of MS Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Word, MS Team) is desirable.
  • Somali nationals and Somali diaspora are strongly encouraged to apply.

Additional notes

  • The selected candidate will be identified through a transparent desk review process which would involve review of CVs and informal chat.
  • The intern is expected to sign a Statement of Understanding of Internship/Fellowship Conditions before reporting to work.
  • The intern should have a medical insurance coverage.
  • The intern will be requested to submit a short report at the end of the internship.
  • The supervisor will assess the intern’s performance, and a Final Evaluation for UNICEF Interns will be provided.
  • Internship is compensated according to UNICEF internship procedures. Funding for the post will be provided by the Social Policy section.
