Result of Service - Categorized research findings on climate security, gender, and PVE, especially aligned with the expectations of relevant regional stakeholders and offering insights on existing gaps and potential areas of focus; - Analysis of international and national laws, regulations, and norms that influence climate security and PVE policies; - Training material developed and ready to be delivered, tailored to meet the requirements of the target audience; - Summaries of collected good practices drafted; - Reports, research papers, publications, speeches, background documents, and other relevant material drafted.

Work Location UNICRI HQ in Turin with travels applicable to countries where relevant activities are carried out (tbd)

Duties and Responsibilities 1. Background of the assignment: United Nations Interregional Crime and Justice Research Institute (UNICRI) is a United Nations entity established in 1968 to support countries worldwide in preventing crime and facilitating criminal justice. UNICRI is mandated to assist intergovernmental, governmental and non-governmental organizations in formulating and implementing improved policies in the field of crime prevention and criminal justice. UNICRI's goals are: - to advance understanding of crime-related problems; - to foster just and efficient criminal justice systems; - to support the respect of international instruments and other standards; - to facilitate international law enforcement cooperation and judicial assistance.

This junior entry-level position is located within the Counter-Terrorism Programme of UNICRI, within the framework of a project aiming to understand the interconnected challenges and develop strategies in climate security, gender, and the prevention of violent extremism (PVE).

2. Purpose of the assignment: The Fellow will support UNICRI's work and activities under the initiative on climate insecurity and prevention of violent extremism (PVE), with particular reference to the project "Developing Training Material on Climate Security Policies with a Gender-Inclusive Focus for national authorities and civil society in the Sahel". In particular, the Fellow will be responsible for supporting action-oriented research, which combines research and practical expertise in a process that better informs policies and technical programmes.

3. Specific tasks to be performed: Under the supervision of the Programme Officer, the incumbent will perform the following tasks: - Conduct research on relevant literature, data, and articles to identify research and training gaps in climate change, gender, and PVE in the Sahel, West Africa, East Africa and MENA region. - Conduct research on the emerging trends regarding the threats posed by climate-induced security concerns on a global scale. - Contribute to the review of research, reports, and training material. - Support developing and drafting good practices in climate security and PVE policies and analyzing data collected through project activities. - Support drafting speeches and presentations for diverse audiences, including workshops, conferences, and stakeholder meetings. - Provide assistance in the preparation of meetings, training courses, seminars, and workshops, including conducting background research, drafting concept notes, and identifying relevant speakers. - Support coordination with relevant stakeholders and counterparts within the UN System and other International Organizations. - Support the development of training materials and related learning tools on climate security, gender, and PVE based on research findings and edit/revise content based on feedback. - Participate in technical, logistical, and coordination meetings and contribute during field missions as the project scope requires. - Perform other related duties as required to support the broader project goals.

Qualifications/special skills An advanced University degree (Master or equivalent) in political science, gender studies, climate, international relations, or related fields is required. Work experience is not required for fellows with a Master's degree. Previous working experience in the field of prevention of violent extremism and/or climate security is desirable. Previous relevant experience with the United Nations or similar large international organizations is also desirable.

Languages Proficiency (i.e., oral and written fluency) in English is required. Fluency in French is an asset.
