Result of Service The Fellow will be responsible for supporting the work and activities of UNICRI’s project Strengthen Moldova's preparedness and response to the evolving security threats by conducting research and analysis in the field of criminal law, criminal justice, and security planning.

Duties and Responsibilities 1. Background of the assignment:

United Nations Interregional Crime and Justice Research Institute (UNICRI) is a United Nations entity established in 1968 to support countries worldwide in preventing crime and facilitating criminal justice. UNICRI is mandated to assist intergovernmental, governmental and non-governmental organizations in formulating and implementing improved policies in the field of crime prevention and criminal justice. UNICRI's goals are: - to advance understanding of crime-related problems; - to foster just and efficient criminal justice systems; - to support the respect of international instruments and other standards; - to facilitate international law enforcement cooperation and judicial assistance.

This position is established to support the project Strengthen Moldova's preparedness and response to the evolving security threats project. The project aims to promote the development and adoption of advanced policies and practices as well as the design of training to enhance criminal justice, crime prevention and response to address to the evolving threats within the regional context.

2. Purpose of the assignment:

The Fellow will be responsible for supporting the work and activities of UNICRI’s project Strengthen Moldova's preparedness and response to the evolving security threats by conducting research and analysis in the field of criminal law, criminal justice, and security planning.

3. Specific tasks to be performed:

Under the supervision of the Programme Officer, the incumbent will perform the following tasks: - Conduct research, collect data and analyze national, regional and international policies in crime prevention and criminal justice, cataloguing and storing relevant resources; - Collect and analyze research and trends regarding evolving threats at the global level with a focus on Moldova and broader region; - Support the development of training modules and related learning tools based on the research findings; - Contribute to the review of research, reports and training material; - Support the development and drafting of good practice documents as well as in analysis of data collected through project activities; - Draft and review reports, publications, background documents and other relevant material; - Support in the draft of speeches and presentations to be delivered in meetings, workshops and conferences; - Provide assistance in preparation of meetings, training courses, seminars, workshops, including by conducting background research, drafting concept notes and identifying relevant speakers; - Participate in technical and coordination meetings and field missions; - Perform any other job-related duty as required.

4. Expected tangible and measurable outputs:

  • Research findings and data categorized by different topics, to be agreed with the Moldovan Ministry of Internal Affairs, and validated as per accuracy through cross reference with academic papers, governmental and non-governmental sources;
  • Training courses developed and ready to be delivered;
  • Summaries of collected good practices drafted;
  • Analysis of international and national legislation and applicable rules;
  • Reports, research papers, publications, speeches, background documents and other relevant material drafted.

    Qualifications/special skills An advanced University degree (Master or equivalent) in criminal law, criminology, international relations or related fields is required. Work experience is not required for fellows with a Master’s degree. Previous working experience in the crime prevention and criminal justice field is desirable. Previous relevant experience with the United Nations or similar large international organizations and/or in law enforcement is also desirable.

    Languages Proficiency (i.e., oral, and written fluency) in English is required. Knowledge of Romanian is also desirable. Knowledge of another United Nations official language is an asset
