Result of Service The Fellow will assist the Head of Unit in conducting research and analysis on chemical security risks and preparing and reviewing educational and training materials for experts and training centers.

Expected duration 152 working days from 15 May 2022 to 31 December 2022 (19 working days per each month)

Duties and Responsibilities 1. Background of the assignment:

UNICRI is a United Nations entity established in 1968 to support countries worldwide in preventing crime and facilitating criminal justice. UNICRI is mandated to assist intergovernmental, governmental and non-governmental organizations in formulating and implementing improved policies in the field of crime prevention and criminal justice. UNICRI' s goals are:

• to advance understanding of crime-related problems;
• to foster just and efficient criminal justice systems;
• to support the respect of international instruments and other standards;
• to facilitate international law enforcement cooperation and judicial assistance.

2. Purpose of the assignment:

With specific reference to the project “Prevent non-state chemical weapons (CW) attacks in Morocco and Tunisia” (ATLAS) the Fellow will assist the Head of Unit in the implementation of project activities, in particular in conducting research and analysis on chemical security risks and preparing and reviewing educational and training materials for experts and training centers.

3. Specific tasks to be performed by the fellow:

Under the supervision of the Head of Unit, the Fellow will perform the following activities:

• Collect data and analyse possible risks related to chemical terrorism, including case studies, profiling of potential CW offenders, methods used by CW attackers to plan and deliver CW, best practices and challenges related to the planning and the implementation of intelligence/law enforcement operations to thwart attempts to CW attacks;
• Draft and review educational and training materials;
• Attend technical workshops and training sessions;

• Perform other job-related duties upon request.

  Qualifications/special skills Academic Qualifications: Advanced University degree (Master’s or equivalent) in the field of law, criminology, social sciences, science, arts, communication, or a similar field is required. A first level university degree in a relevant field with two additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of an advanced university degree. Experience: Work experience is not required for junior fellows with a Master’s degree; however, experience in research and/or analysis in crime prevention issues and chemical, biological, radiological and nuclear (CBRN) risks is highly desirable. Experience with the United Nations or other large international organizations is also desirable. Language: Proficiency (i.e. oral and written fluency) in English and French is required. Knowledge of another UN language is an asset.
