Libya is situated in the center of the coast of North Africa on the Mediterranean, bordered to the east of Egypt, on the south by Sudan, Chad and Niger, on the west by Algeria and Tunisia. The climate of Tripoli can be defined as Mediterranean, since the winters are mild and quite rainy, and the summers are hot and sunny. Tripoli is hardship - E duty station.

Libya is a unique country and UNSMIL has a unique operation. It provides for an interesting and enriching environment, but also requires a mature level of cultural awareness, as well as more stamina and commitment than elsewhere to make life comfortable and affordable. Therefore, flexibility and the ability and willingness to live and work in harsh and potentially hazardous conditions, involving physical hardship and little comfort, are essential.
