Duties and Responsibilities The Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA - unescwa.org) forms part of the United Nations Secretariat and, like the other regional commissions, operates under the supervision of the United Nations Economic and Social Council. ESCWA provides a framework for the formulation and harmonization of sectoral policies for member countries, a platform for congress and coordination, a home for expertise and knowledge, and an information observatory. The Resources Management and Service Development Division (RMSDD) is the operations arm of ESCWA. It provides reliable and proactive services to support the Commission in implementing its programmes and fulfilling its mandates to member States. The RMSDD offers a variety of services to clients and partners, while ensuring high standards of efficiency and effectiveness.

In response to the global and regional change management initiatives, the RMSDD workplan for 2022 should be formulated on grounds of innovation, business processes improvement, and collaboration. Moreover, the workplan should be drafted to support the expansion of ESCWA client base by encouraging effective and efficient service delivery. All plans and strategies developed should be in alignment with the United Nations Secretary General's reform and push towards RMSDD active engagement in implementing Country Business Operations Strategy (BOS), Regional Business Operations Strategy (R-BOS), Common Premises (CP), and backoffice initiatives.

The RMSDD is planning a two-day office retreat that will provide an opportunity to reflect on last year's achievements and lessons learned and discuss adjustments for future programmatic and operational effectiveness. It will enable collective rethinking of existing strategies and practices in order to increase productivity. An important focus will be placed on forming mutual understanding between the team members and benefiting from the valuable face to face team building opportunity. The retreat should result in a developed workplan that considers lessons learnt from previous years, increased team cohesiveness, renewed joint energy and motivation for greater productivity and enhanced drive for innovation and creativity.

In addition to the above, People Management Central (HR) is also planning to have a one-day retreat to review and take stock of the previous 3 years achievements and lessons learned and to brainstorm on the workplans for the coming 2 years. This exercise is intended to build synergy and cohesiveness among the team members and strengthen commitments towards achieving the HR present and future goals.
