Under the direct supervision of the Chief of Field Office (CFO) in Aceh, supported by Child Protection team in Jakarta Office, the Child Protection Officer is to support the delivery of high-quality technical support for the implementation of child protection programmes in Aceh province. The temporary post requires a candidate who already has significant experience in child protection related to one or more of the following: system strengthening, child justice, policy reform, social norms, positive parenting interventions, child protection in emergencies.

This post will be based in Banda Aceh with possibility of travels to other project sites and to Jakarta under coordination of the Aceh Chief of Field Office (CFO) and the UNICEF Child Protection team in Jakarta. Duration of assignment is 364 days.

How can you make a difference?

1. Support the provincial and district governments and key stakeholders in strengthening the child protection system, which includes advocacy on provincial and district laws and regulations related to child protection; expanding and sustaining the integrated services for child protection; initiating and expanding social norms intervention to prevent violence against children and child marriage; and maintaining support for child protection in emergencies and birth registration. Support will focus on supporting the advocacy for and providing technical inputs to laws, regulations and policies related to child protection issues 2. Support the replication of the integrated interventions to address malnutrition with focus on enhancing the positive parenting component in Aceh province and advocating for improvements and replication of the approach at the national level or in other provinces. 3. Facilitate capacity building and knowledge sharing with relevant key stakeholders in Aceh, including the governments, religious leaders, implementing partners as well as pesantren network on child protection related issues. 4. Initiate, support and actively monitor partnerships and implementation of UNICEF-supported programmes through visits, surveys, and exchange of information with partners, to assess progress, identify bottlenecks and potential problems and take timely decisions to resolve issues and/or refer to relevant officials for timely interventions, including to ensure appropriate utilization of funds in line with grant conditions, and compliance with UNICEF’s Zero Tolerance policy on the Protection from Sexual Exploitation and Abuse (PSEA) as well as Child Safeguarding principles. 5. Provide technical inputs and work closely with UNICEF Indonesia Child Protection team to discuss strategies, planning, and methodologies for better achievement of child protection programs. 6. Contribute to draft policy papers, briefs, concept notes and other strategic materials for use by management, and donors 7. Supporting generating learning/knowledge products, covering innovative approaches and good practices, to support programme implementation or for use during meeting/events as required.

To qualify as an advocate for every child you will have…

• Bachelor’s Degree in international development, human rights, psychology, sociology, international law, social work or other social science field. • A minimum of 2 (two) years of relevant work experience within specific issues related to prevention and response to violence against children, law and policy reform, social norms. Experience in both development and humanitarian contexts is an added advantage • Experience in facilitating institutional strengthening, including developing a strategic plan, coordination and liaison with various government offices and religious sectors • Good understanding of Syariah Law and its implementation in Aceh is considered an asset • Ability to work independently and with a variety of stakeholders • Ability to provide guidance and training to enhance capacity of government staff and community members • Experience with UNICEF/UN is highly valued and will be considered an asset • Familiar with sub-national level government planning and budgeting processes • Fluency in both oral and written English and Bahasa Indonesia
