Result of Service - Establish a structured and methodological training syllabus of relevance to handlers and explosive detection dogs ensuring compliance to perform explosive detection functions. - Confirm handlers are provided the necessary skills to maintain daily training essentials to include but not limited to teaching dogs' basic commands, search patterns to locate explosives and resolve behavioral problems to fit the requirements of the job. - Generate a compatible environment ensuring dogs coexist with no serious implications. - Ascertain handlers acquire and apply the required techniques, commands, and corrective measures. - Establish a programmatic follow-up mechanism to track handlers and dog' performance and to further improve their strengths and areas of development - K9 teams are certified in accordance with UN DSS manual on Guidelines for establishment and operations of UN Canine Unit with collaboration of existing host government. - Obtainability to End of program valuation report including development plan and maintenance plan for each team and unit overall.

Expected duration 6 months

Duties and Responsibilities - Prepare and execute comprehensive training program for Explosive Detection Canine Team. Certification to include but not limited to the bonding phase, obedience on command and explosive detection and search technique. - Select suitable handler traits and assign adequate matching based on unique characteristics of dog. - Evaluate temperament of dogs, identify areas of concern, and plan corrective approach. - Implement appropriate training program to address and resolve identified problematic areas including aggression, separation anxiety, hyperactivity, and biting. - Promote proper handler/dog bonding relation in addition to enforcing cohabitation of present dogs diminishing any possibility of mistreatment, aggression, and harm. - Teach methodology of enforcing good dog behavior and appropriate corrective measures diminishing undesired behavior. - Evaluate, report and document weekly assessment of training progress. - Teach handers and train dogs on the application of basic and advanced obedience using various training methods best suited to each dog's personality and attributes. - Tailor appropriate training material enforcing the maintenance of desired behaviors and skills learned by each dog. - Introduction to explosives and scent familiarization to available explosive components. - Teach canines/handlers proper search patterns to proficiently locate explosives in a multitude of search areas, objects, and obstacles. - Provide training on Explosive Detection ensuring proper certification in accordance to the DSS guidelines for Establishment and Operation of United Nations Canine Unit. - Provide daily evaluation and recommendations to the canine unit supervisor on progress made in accordance with the training program. - Adheres to UN policies and guidelines.

Qualifications/special skills Skills: - Must possess above average communication skills both written and orally. - Must have vast knowledge of dog breed characteristics. - Knowledge of and ability to handle explosives. - Must have basic knowledge of canine health and well-being. - Must have computer skills and knowledge to use Microsoft Officer (Word and Excel). - Must be able to track and report training progress throughout the area of responsibility. - Able to deliver training and certification program. Academic Qualifications: High school diploma or equivalent is required. Experience: - Minimum of 10-year experience as a dog trainer is required. - Minimum of 8 year as Explosive Detection Instructor is required. - EDD Instructor Certification accredited by host government is desirable. Language: Fluency in English is required. Fluency in Arabic is required.
