Result of Service To support vulnerable Arab countries to enhance their food security and nutrition situation building on trade as a tool to complement national food systems shortcomings.

Work Location Not on premises

Expected duration 1 November 2021 – 31 December 2021.

Duties and Responsibilities The consultant is expected to undertake the following tasks in close coordination with an ESCWA team and in consultation with relevant national and regional institutions (to be identified): - Collect data and information and map the food security situation in concerned countries as well as conduct a trade and nutrition status analysis, - Conduct appropriate analyses and propose ways to improve food systems to better support food security, trade and nutrition objectives, - Provide an intermediary output consisting of a draft report entitled "Food security and trade and impact on nutrition in vulnerable Arab countries" by early-November and a full report by Mid-December, - Integrate comments received during an initial review process by ESCWA and finalize the report ensuring good coherence and flow of ideas, - Present the report in a focus group consultation/workshop and finalize based on remarks received.

Qualifications/special skills Academic Qualifications: Advanced university degree (Master's degree or equivalent) in economics, agriculture trade, food value chain analyses or a related field is required. Experience: At least 7 years of related professional experience in research, analysis and policy formulation on food security, trade and nutrition is required. Experience in the Arab region is highly desirable. Language: Fluency in oral and written English is required.
