Background

NORCAP solves challenges in the humanitarian, development and peacebuilding sectors to better protect vulnerable people’s lives and rights. We build partnerships, promote more effective ways of working and provide skilled experts to develop capacity. NORCAP is a part of the Norwegian Refugee Council. We work with our partners to address challenges via three core activities:

  • We develop partnerships with regional and global organisations and national stakeholders. We believe working together in a coordinated and sustainable manner is the best way to reduce needs, risks and vulnerability over time.
  • We seek and promote more effective ways of working at the global level and in the field. Our aim is not only to reduce needs, but also to create choice and opportunity for vulnerable people.
  • We deploy skilled experts to develop our partner’s capacity. Given their independence from agendas and interests of the organisations they are deployed to, our experts are well placed to identify and address challenges, improve collaboration and encourage new and innovative approaches.

The NORCAP Executive Assistant will advise and support the NORCAP Executive Director and the NORCAP Management team (NMT) in their strategic and operational responsibilities. The rolewill play a key role in driving progress and coordination of internal processes, including involvement of internal and external stakeholders.

Responsibilities

  • Advise and support the Executive Director with strategic and administrative tasks and ensure good routines for follow up where needed both within NORCAP and with the rest of NRC.
  • Stay updated and advise NORCAP Executive Director on issues and processes relevant for her/his role execution.
  • Support the NORCAP Management Team in day-to-day administration of the department
  • Assist NORCAP Executive Director and the Management Team with internal and external communication in collaboration with the Communications team
  • Facilitate and maintain a good dialogue with external stakeholders (partners, donors etc)
  • Facilitate and administer meetings, presentations, meeting schedules, etc of the NORCAP Management Team and any other meeting arenas as requested by the NORCAP Executive Director.
  • Follow up, coordinate and ensure progress of decisions in meetings and relevant processes according to deadlines

Qualifications

  • University degree in political science, administration, organisational development, social studies or equivalent
  • 5 years of relevant experience, preferably from the aid sector
  • Documented results related to the position’s responsibilities
  • Analytical skills and an eye for strategic thinking, while having a commitment to quality and attention to detail
  • Interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to collaborate vertically and horizontally in the organisation.
  • The ability to work independently and proactively identify and solve problems.
  • High degree of flexibility and service attitude, with the ability to quickly change agenda and focus in order to handle ad hoc situations and tasks.
