Additionally, through its Oceans Economy and Fisheries Programme, UNCTAD is engaged in the identification of opportunities for sustainable use of marine resources and ecosystems and on the implementation of trade-related targets of SDG 14 (targets 1, 4, 6, 7, and b). The implementation of the Oceans Programme is guided by the recommendations of the UN Oceans Forum on trade-related aspects of SDG 14, which has been successfully held biannually since 2017. The work of UNCTAD in the current phase of the SMEP and the Oceans Economy and Fisheries Programmes focuses on the following: - Coordination and knowledge sharing support to SMEP contributors; - High-level policy alignment with similar multilateral initiatives focusing on sustainable manufacturing and reduction of plastic pollution at the national, regional, and international levels; - Preparation of visual communication materials to assist output dissemination and the delivery of technical assistance activities; - Organization of events on export-linked pollution in Africa, South Asia, and Indo-Pacific regions; - Support the substantive and logistical organization of relevant events, such as future UN Oceans & SMEP events, conferences and webinars. In implementing activities under Outcomes 1-5, a consultant is needed to perform the following duties: Liaise with SMEP contributors, particularly those focused on organic waste and tanneries, to review analytical outputs, with special attention to context, national aspects, GHG emissions, and water pollution issues. In coordination with the project officer and other SMEP-engaged consultants, support the development of policy briefs, research notes, and commentaries derived from commissioned research under SMEP, ensuring they address GHG emissions and water pollution where relevant. Track results linked to tanneries and organic waste field projects, including their impact on GHG emissions and water pollution, and provide inputs to the drafting of quarterly and annual reports related to the SMEP Programme portfolios on organic residues and tanneries. Develop communications products and media content to promote the SMEP Programme's activities and findings, particularly related to organic waste, tanneries, GHG emissions, and water pollution. Assist with substantive and logistical support in the organization of webinars, web news items, and physical events to disseminate UNCTAD and/or SMEP research outputs of relevance to international trade practitioners, regional and national authorities. Act as a liaison between the SMEP Programme and the Oceans Economy and Fisheries Programme, facilitating collaboration and knowledge sharing on relevant topics such as marine-based plastics substitutes and sustainable use of marine resources. Assist with substantive and logistical support in the organization of relevant events, including a potential workshop on alternative fibres upcycled from agri residues in Manila, as per request of national government, including preparation of concept notes, invitations, logistical aspects, presentations, speeches, and social media content.
