This is a UNV National Specialist contract. This kind of contract is known as National UN Volunteer. It is normally only for nationals. More about UNV National Specialist contracts.

Description of task

Within the delegated authority and under relevant supervision, the UN Volunteer will:

1. Lead on the implementation of the International Volunteer Day (IVD) 2021 activities within Expo 2020

  • Manage ongoing planning and implementation of IVD2021 activities within Expo 2020 in Dubai, including plan development/refinement, agenda setting, client relationship management, sourcing required logistics, etc.
  • Coordinate with relevant partners on IVD2021 programming, including partner UN entities, Expo 2020 management/volunteers, the Ministry of Community Development (MoCD) in the UAE, the Emirates Foundation, Member States expressing interest in IVD2021 programming, and Expo-assigned content vendors, among others.
  • Ensure proper coverage of the IVD2021 messages and activities through social media, Expo’s various channels, and local/regional media.
  • Identify opportunities for linking with relevant ongoing Expo programming with the purpose of magnifying reach, visibility, and audience engagement of IVD2021 messaging and activities.

2. Coordinate UNV’s participation in the UN space at Expo 2020 (the UN Hub)

  • Identify opportunities for linking with relevant UN Hub programming with the purpose of positioning UNV with UAE-based partners.
  • Liaise with the Expo 2020 focal point at the Resident Coordinator’s Office (RCO) on potential activities identified.

3. Support the development of communications materials related to the IVD 2021 and SWVR2022

  • Support the development of multimedia communications materials related to the IVD 2021 over the course of Expo 2020 and/or related to SWVR2022 regional outreach.
  • Manage inputs for social media dissemination of events and activities described above
  • Produce a final report for public dissemination on all UNV ROAS activities held for IVD2021 or within the Expo 2020.
  • Perform any other related tasks as may be required or assigned by the supervisor.

Educational additional comments

University Degree in communications, public relations, social sciences or a related field. Studies or experience in event management, communications, or a related area.

Experience remark

  • A minimum of 3 years of professional work experience in event management, public relations, communications, or a related field;
  • Experience in sourcing a diverse range of multimedia materials (print, web, audio-visuals, social media content) for advocacy or outreach;
  • Self-motivated, with ability to work with minimum supervision and under tight deadlines;
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, culturally and socially sensitive, with the ability to work effectively in a multicultural environment;
  • Ability to work inclusively and collaboratively with a range of partners, including volunteers, UN partners, government, community members, Volunteer Involving Organizations (VIOs), and the private sector;
  • Solid overall computer literacy, including proficiency in various MS Office applications (Excel, Word, etc.) and email/internet; familiarity with database management; and office technology equipment;
