Result of Service

The work of the consultant will contribute to the design and implementation of the One Planet Network Forum, taking place 12-13 September in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, in particular to its high-level dinner. The objective of this consultancy is to ensure the successful organization and execution of the high-level dinner, ensuring it aligns with the Forum's sustainability goals and effectively facilitates networking and collaboration among attendees.

Duties and Responsibilities

The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) is the voice for the environment within the United Nations system. UNEP acts as a catalyst, advocate, educator and facilitator to promote the wise use and sustainable development of the global environment. UNEP's Industry and Economy division plays a leading role in the Green Economy Initiative (GEI), which aims to transition national economies onto a new path, in which jobs and output growth are driven by increased investment in green sectors, and by a switch of consumers’ preferences towards environmentally friendly goods and services. Located within the Industry and Economy Division, the Resources and Markets Branch (RMB) Branch examines how economics, trade, and finance interact with the environment and contribute to sustainable development at the local, national, regional, and global levels. Within the RMB, One Planet Network Secretariat is hosted. The One Planet Network (OPN) is a solutions-driven global community of practitioners, policymakers and experts, including governments, businesses, civil society, academia and international organisations, that implements the 10-Year Framework of Programmes on Sustainable Consumption and Production and works towards achieving SDG 12: ensuring sustainable patterns of consumption and production. On 12-13 September OPN is convening a One Planet Network Forum - a global platform for cooperation and thought leadership convened by the One Planet Network to accelerate the implementation of SCP and SDG12. Within its realm, we will host a high-profile report launch and a high-level dinner in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. OPN is convening a One Planet Network Forum - a global platform for cooperation and thought leadership convened by the One Planet Network to accelerate the implementation of SCP and SDG12. Within its realm, we will host a high-profile dinner in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. This high-level dinner to be held on the on the 13 of September aims to put highlight on the impacts achieved by the OPN and foster collaboration among international leaders, policymakers, and stakeholders committed to sustainability. The report launch to be held on the 12 of September will consist of an “unplugged” and interactive launching event for the 10YFP new report under the working title “ACHIEVING WELL-BEING, REDUCING INEQUALITIES AND TRANSFORMING CONSUMPTION THROUGH CIRCULAR POLICIES AND SOLUTIONS”. The dinner on its part aims to put highlight on the impacts achieved by the OPN and foster collaboration among international leaders, policymakers, and stakeholders committed to sustainability with a strong focus on the importance of sustainable food systems, local solutions, inclusion of marginalized communities and engagement with high-level donors. The consultant will play a crucial role in planning, organizing, and executing and providing communication materials associated to the these high-profile events. Specific tasks and responsibilities: The Event Consultant for High-Level Dinner will undertake the following tasks: Event Planning and Coordination: • Develop a detailed event plan, including timelines, vendors, budgets, and logistics and upon approval, implement it. The plan should involve dinner and the accompanying moderated programme. • Coordinate with local vendors for catering, venue setup, and other necessary services. • Ensure all arrangements comply with sustainability principles, minimizing environmental impact. Stakeholder Management: • Coordinate with the One Planet Network Forum organizers, its Programme partners, and report regularly on activities. • Liaise with UN officials, partners, invitees and other key stakeholders of the Forum and dinner. • Regularly liaise with OPN Forum central organising team to manage invitations and RSVPs for the dinner, ensuring the attendance of high-profile guests. Venue and Logistics Management: • Identify and secure a suitable venue in Brazil that aligns with the event's sustainability theme. • Coordinate the setup of the venue, including seating arrangements, audio-visual equipment, and decor. • Coordinate the setup of the dinner programme Catering and Hospitality: • Source and manage a catering service that offers sustainable and locally sourced food options. • Oversee hospitality arrangements, ensuring a seamless experience for all attendees. Communications and Marketing: • Coordinate with the OPN Forum central organising team to ensure sufficient and timely production of dinner-specific event materials, including invitations, programs, and signage. • Contribute to media coverage and post-event communications to highlight the event's success and impact. On-site Event Management: • Oversee the on-site execution of the event, ensuring all elements run smoothly. • Handle any issues that arise promptly and efficiently. Post-event Activities: • Conduct a post-event evaluation, including feedback from attendees and stakeholders. • Prepare a comprehensive report on the event’s outcomes and lessons learned.

Qualifications/special skills

Post Graduate Degree (Masters level or above) in Event Management, Public Relations, Hospitality, or a related field. A first-level university degree with two additional years of qualifying experience, may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree. • Minimum of 7 years of experience in organizing high-level events, preferably within an international context is required. • Proven ability to manage budgets and logistics for large-scale events is required. • Strong organizational and communication skills is required. • Experience working with international organizations, particularly within the UN system, is highly desirable.

Languages

English and French are the two working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For this post, fluency in English is required. Knowledge of Portuguese is desirable.
