You have:
- A university degree (Bachelors or above) in epidemiology, statistics, database management or public health from an accredited/recognized institute.
- At least 3 years in disease surveillance, data management and in quantitative epidemiology and the implementation of public health surveillance, outbreak investigation and response.
- Good knowledge of English. Knowledge of Arabic is an asset.
- Excellent knowledge of Microsoft Office applications.
- Working knowledge of online data collection applications, statistical analysis packages (Stata, SPSS, etc.) and GIS mapping software would be an asset.

- Purpose of the Position
In the context of WHO South Sudan’s COVID-19 Incident Management System (IMS), the incumbent will support the South Sudan Ministry of Health in the coordination, planning, and implementation of relevant preparedness and response measures for COVID-19 and any other emerging diseases. In particular, the support will focus on the epidemiological surveillance pillar, in relevant fora like the Public Health Emergency Operation Centre (PHEOC), Technical Working Groups (TWGs) and the National Steering Committee (NSC).

The mission of WHO’s Health Emergencies Program (WHE) is to help coordinate action, to prevent, prepare for, detect, rapidly respond to, and recover from outbreaks and emergencies.

- Work to be performed
Under supervision of the COVID-19 incident manager, and in close collaboration with other Incident Management Team (IMT) members, PHEOC staff, other technical programs, and relevant partners, the incumbent will:
- Ensure all relevant guidelines, protocols, tools, and standard operating procedures for COVID-19 response are updated in line with the latest WHO guidance, and actively promote and monitor their proper implementation through the relevant TWGs and NSC.
- Provide technical backstopping to the MOH through the Epi-surveillance TWG.
- Provide sound real-time analysis of data to monitor trends for timely decision-making
- Contribute to WHO information products that require COVID-19 epidemiological updates and present epidemiological updates during relevant meetings
- Support strengthening the country’s International Health Regulations (IHR) core capacities through the identification of key recommendations during COVID-19 response Intra Action Reviews (IAR) to be incorporated in the National Action Plan for Health Security (NAPHS), in particular with regards to Points of Entry, laboratory management, and surveillance.
- Perform any other incident-specific related duties, as required by the WHO COVID-19 incident manager.
- Education
- Essential****: A university degree (Bachelors or above) in epidemiology, statistics, database management or public health from an accredited/recognized institute.
- Desirable****: Master’s degree in health-related field. Specialized training in communicable diseases.
- Experience
- Essential: At least 3 years in disease surveillance, data management and in quantitative epidemiology and the implementation of public health surveillance, outbreak investigation and response.
- Desirable: Experience in working with UN or INGOs in disease surveillance program in South Sudan.
- Other Skills (e.g. IT)
- Excellent knowledge of Microsoft Office applications.
- Working knowledge of online data collection applications, statistical analysis packages (Stata, SPSS, etc).
- Working knowledge of GIS mapping software (or similar) would be an asset.
