Result of Service The consultant will help in achieving the following: - Members of the IMG network are well informed on the progress of the Greening the Blue initiative through updated and targeted communications. - Communication and engagement methods are updated and made more fitting to the needs of Greening the Blue.

Duties and Responsibilities The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) is the United Nations systems designated entity for addressing environmental issues at the global and regional level. Its mandate is to coordinate the development of environmental policy consensus by keeping the global environment under review and bringing emerging issues to the attention of governments and the international community for action.

The Sustainable UN is tasked with reporting the UN system’s progress against the objectives identified in the Strategy for Sustainability Management in the United Nations System 2020 – 2030, Phase I: Environmental Sustainability in the Area of Management, which it does via the annual Greening the Blue Report. To further support this task and improve its impact, focused communications, network and knowledge management are needed throughout the year. The existing Greening the Blue campaign and the knowledge management system of the SUN team need regular maintenance to be up-to-date with information renewed regularly via “stories” and tools from the UN system Environmental Sustainability Management efforts collected from over 50 UN entities. The objective of the contract is to facilitate IMG engagement with the SUN teams and uptake of SUN team’s guidance and knowledge amongst UN focal points and external partners. The completion of the deliverables will be based on the full terms of reference established by the programme manager and evaluation method may be used as appropriate to determine achievements against the expected outputs, objectives and the following performance indicators:

  • Knowledge management plan
  • Meeting reports (Agenda, slides, list of participants)
  • Help desk tracking system up to date
  • Reports on support provided to SUN team

Responsibilities of Consultant:

The environmental communication and knowledge management consultant will work under the direct supervision of the Coordinator of Sustainable UN and will perform the following key roles:

  • Knowledge management plan which identifies GtB tools, reports, inventory data which may be of broad interest, and development of timeline for releasing news and stories, promotion of tools and the GtB report.
  • Meeting minutes and organisation of two UN sustainability focal points meetings.
  • Develop and Maintain “SUN Help Desk tracking system” for support requests sent by Focal Points and other partners.
  • Report on support provided to IMG and SUN team

    Qualifications/special skills Skills: - Proficiency in software applications such as MS Word, Excel and PowerPoint Adobe InDesign, Drupal, Photoshop required - Excellent interpersonal and communication skills. Academic Qualifications: - A post graduate degree in an environmental field, communications, development or social sciences is required

- Work experience will count more for this assignment than a specific degree and can be a substitute for an advanced degree Experience: Minimum 2 years’ experience in corporate strategic communications, and/or campaigns management in private and/or public national and international organizations is required. - Minimum 2 years’ experience in communications focused on institutional sustainability is desired. - Expertise in running online campaigns, with demonstrated results. - Up-to-date proficiency with communications best practices, including social media and online media. - Knowledge of the UN system and culture and familiarity with the UN interagency networks is desired but not essential. - Experience in writing, editing and producing communications /marketing materials. Creative, autonomous, and resourceful strategist with a track record of proactivity. - Exposure to cross cultural and multi-ethnic working environment. Language: - English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For the post advertised, fluency in oral and written English is required.
