Organizational Setting

The main aim of the FAO country offices, which are headed by an FAO Representative, is to assist governments to develop policies, programmes and projects to achieve food security and to reduce hunger and malnutrition, to help develop the agricultural, fisheries and forestry sectors, and to use their environmental and natural resources in a sustainable manner. The position is located in the FAO Representation in Tirana, Albania.

Reporting Lines

Under the direct supervision of the FAO Representative for Albania, the administrative and operational supervision of the budget holder and the technical supervision of the Assistant FAO Representative, the Environmental and SDG Policy Specialist will work in close collaboration with the focal points in the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development and Ministry of Tourism and Environment of Albania, and with partner UN agencies.

Technical Focus

The Environmental and SDG policy specialist will lead implementation of the project Business Partnerships & Solutions for SDGs, and coordinate involvement of institutions and private sector in contributing to and monitoring contributions to SDGs under FAO custodianship with a focus on SDGs 13 and 15.

Tasks and responsibilities

• Ensure cooperation and coordination in the context of the Business Partnerships & Solutions for SDGs project with the organizations of the United Nations (UN) system, with UNDP, and other global, regional and national institutions and relevant partners and stakeholders. • Support the field implementation of the “SFS-MED: a multi-stakeholder initiative for Sustainable Food Systems in the Mediterranean” project, by supporting the development a roadmap and implementation action plan on the prioritized areas of the Albanian National Pathway to Sustainable Food System, as well as monitoring the country-level letter of agreement (LoA) and contract for implementation of project activities by service provider. • Support policy dialogue with relevant government officials and development partners in Albania on policies and strategies to mainstream environment sustainability in development planning. • Support coordination with relevant FAO departments at HQ and Regional Office and relevant line agencies in the government, academic institutes and research organizations and project partners for proper communication and information sharing including the facilitating country office organize technical meetings, consultations, and workshops. • Support public communications activities through the drafting of talking points, speeches, press releases, interviews, events, photos, and other communication products. • Support the Communications Specialist in drafting web stories, news articles, and social media messages

CANDIDATES WILL BE ASSESSED AGAINST THE FOLLOWING

Minimum Requirements

• University degree in sustainable development, environment, economics, social studies or other area related to FAO work. An advanced university degree (Masters or PhD) will be an advantage. • At least 2 years of relevant experience providing advisory services in the area of sustainable development policy and planning; • Working knowledge (level C) of English and limited knowledge (level B) of one of the other FAO languages (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian, Spanish). For PSA , working knowledge of English.
