You have:

  • Master’s degree or equivalent in economics, climate change, environmental science, finance, or related fields is required.
  • PHD is an asset.
  • Minimum of 10 years of professional technical experience in the field of environment, social and governance or environment finance is required.
  • Previous practical experience in similar task in environment finance is required.
  • Knowledge of environment finance in Saudi Arabia is an asset.
  • Experience working in West Asia is desirable.
  • Fluency in written and spoken in both English and Arabic is required.

Duties and Responsibilities

Organizational Setting, Purpose, and Objective:

The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) is the leading global environmental authority that sets the global environmental agenda, promotes the coherent implementation of the environmental dimension of sustainable development within the United Nations system and serves as an authoritative advocate for the global environment. The West Asia Office delivers advisory services and capacity building support to countries to achieve environment and sustainable development objectives. This consultancy is established at the West Asia Office within the framework of the Strategic Cooperation Agreement between UNEP and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. The expert will report to the Project Manager at UNEP West Asia Office.

Under the direct supervision of the Project Manager in UNEP West Asia Office and in coordination with the National Environment Fund and the respective department in the Ministry of Environment, Water and Agriculture (MEWA) of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, the Consultant will carry-out, inter alia, the following duties & responsibilities:

1.Contribute to the development of Environment, Social and Governance (ESG) and Climate Change policy and strategy. 2.Contribute to the development of ESG rating and reporting guidelines/templates for investments opportunities. 3.Provide guidance on ESG investments and responsible investments (investments with social and sustainable impact). 4.Provide advice on Green Finance and Sustainable Finance from ESG perspective. 5.Contribute to the development of mechanisms to capture and translate impact created by Environment Fund and 5 environmental centers from ESG perspective. 6.Provide guidance impact investments (environmental, social, governance, and sustainable impact). 7.Establish a detailed study on ESG, Green Finance and Sustainable Finance, its impact on the Kingdom, and potential partnerships that can be established with local and international partners to promote this avenue.

Qualifications/special skills

Master’s degree or equivalent in economics, climate change, environmental science, finance, or related fields. is required. PHD is an asset.
