Overview

Support environmental initiatives and management tasks in mission contexts.

You have:

  • Bachelor degree or equivalent in Environmental management, engineering, science, policy, or related area.
  • 36 months of relevant professional experience in policy, regulation, planning and education and capacity building.
  • Fluent in English - mandatory language requirement.
  • Working knowledge of French - mandatory language requirement.
  • Possession of a valid driving license is required.

Contract

This is a UNV International Specialist contract. This kind of contract is known as International UN Volunteer. It is normally internationally recruited only. More about UNV International Specialist contracts.

Eligibility criteria

Minimum age: 25 years old. Nationals of the country of assignment are not eligible, except the assignments in Headquarters duty stations.

Description of task

Under the direct supervision of the Chief, Environmental Unit/RAO, Kidal, the UN Volunteer will undertake the following tasks:

  • Support the implementation and monitoring of the Mission’s Environmental Management System (EMS) through the following tasks applicable to Sector North;
  • Deliver environmental briefings to new mission personnel including police and military contingents during their induction;
  • Promote environmental awareness through inter alia campaigns, activities for international environmental days;
  • Undertake site environmental inspections at regular frequencies;
  • Assist in the delivery of Regional Environmental Committees (REC);
  • Co-develop and monitor environmental initiatives with local communities (such as QIP or Trust Fund projects);
  • Participate/contribute to Environmental Unit mainstream activities and reporting (e.g. provision of data for the environmental Action Planning and Performance – eAPP) and Peace Ops Environmental community/working groups;
  • Investigate complaints and reports of pollution and other environment-related incidents.
