Duties and Responsibilities

UNCTAD’s flagship capacity building programme Empretec deals with entrepreneurship development through national business development centres. The latter are identified through a letter from the government addressed to UNCTAD, followed by a Memorandum of Understanding signed between the business development centre and UNCTAD. They are part of the Empretec global network coordinated by UNCTAD. The main goal of the Empretec programme is to contribute to economic development of developing countries and economies in transition by fostering entrepreneurship and creating/strengthening competitive MSME sector in accordance with the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. Since its inception in 1988, Empretec has expanded to more than 40 developing countries and economies in transition. Building on the core components of the Empretec programme, and the growing demand for entrepreneurs to be “resilient” and “agile” in a changing world where technology, interconnectivity and competitiveness require MSMEs to adapt the manner through which they operate, UNCTAD proceeds with two artificial intelligence crash courses for entrepreneurship capacity building. Under the overall supervision of Ms. Arlette Verploegh, Chief of UNCTAD’s Entrepreneurship Section, the incumbent will and perform the following duties: 1. Participate in a three day brainstorming exercise and meetings with important stakeholders in Saudi Arabia to advance with a plan for capacity building activities of entrepreneurs, who manage early-stage businesses or are ready to scale and access markets.
