About the job

The Danish Refugee Council (DRC) has opened the recruitment process for a National Post (with Local salary scale) of the English teacher within the GIZ funded project “Social cohesion of people on the move and local population in Serbia”. The objective of the project is to support social participation of people on the move and local population in the Republic of Serbia though improvement of the work and life skills of people on the move and local population in host communities and through strengthening social interaction and social participation.

Position: English teacher (432 classes in the period of 9 months), Sid

Period of engagement: 9 months (November and December 2023, February, March, April, May, June, September and October 2024)

Basic functions: The role of the English teacher is to work with the DRC team and its partners during the implementation of the project “Social cohesion of people on the move and local population in Serbia” and to design, organize and implement 432 English language classes that will be conducted during the period of 9 months in the premises outside and inside the asylum and reception centers. The English language classes will be implemented through three eight-week courses in which people on the move and the local population will participate together, three times a week. The envisaged dynamics of the courses that are subject to revision is November and December 2023, April and May 2024, September and October 2024. In addition, within each of the three Reception Centers Adasevci, Principovac and Sid-stanica, one four-week course will be organized for the people on the move, during February, March, and June 2024.

Reference: The English teacher refers directly to the Head of Programme/Country Director and works in close cooperation with the Project staff.

Specific duties and responsibilities:

  • To design, organize and implement English classes for People on the move and local population;
  • To prepare the curriculum to be used during the eight-week and four-week courses;
  • To collect data on participants of each course;
  • To maintain the required program documentation. After completing the course, distribute certificates to participants who have completed the course;
  • To independently prepare the materials needed for the implementation of the lessons;
  • To report to the DRC team on the progress of the participants, as well as on possible risks/difficulties in the implementation of the lessons.
  • To take care of the involvement of all participants so that they get an equal chance for participation;
  • Create a contact with the beneficiaries and build a trust relationship with them;
  • Identify and respond appropriately to safeguarding and protection issues with vulnerable beneficiaries per need;
  • Facilitate the referral of People on the move;
  • Works collaboratively with other project staff and participate in staff meetings;
  • Perform other duties as required for the successful implementation of the project.

Qualifications & experience required

  • English language diploma;
  • Experience on refugee/migration related issues would be an asset;

Skills and Work Experience:

  • Minimum 2 years of experience in working as an English teacher.

Key Competencies

  • Ability to work in a multicultural context as a flexible and respectful team player;
  • Problem solving, analytical and writing skills, with the ability to produce reports for internal and external use;
  • Fluency in spoken and written Serbian;
  • Computer literacy (Microsoft Word and Excel);
  • Driving license and being an active driver would be an asset.
