**OVERVIEW** ------------ Parent Sector : Culture Sector (CLT) Duty Station: Paris Job Family: Culture Type of contract : Non Staff Duration of contract : From 7 to 11 months Recruitment open to : External candidates Application Deadline (Midnight Paris Time) : 21-FEB-2021 UNESCO Core Values: Commitment to the Organization, Integrity, Respect for Diversity, Professionalism ***The expected contract duration is ten months.*** **OVERVIEW OF THE FUNCTIONS OF THE POST** ----------------------------------------- In the framework of the implementation of the Convention for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage (hereinafter called “the 2003 Convention”), and in close consultation with the Programme Management Unit of the Culture Sector Living Heritage Entity, the Individual Specialist shall perform the following tasks, using appropriate terminology and taking into account the style and nuances of the United Nations, UNESCO and of the 2003 Convention, as well as the appropriateness of the content for readers (including States Parties to the 2003 Convention, UNESCO Member States, national authorities, non-governmental organizations, partners and the general public): • Edit draft statutory documents on the implementation of the 2003 Convention concerning the work of the Secretariat and the Convention’s governing bodies (the Intergovernmental Committee for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage, its Bureau and the Evaluation Body); • Draft abstracts and summaries of nominations to the List of Intangible Cultural Heritage in Need of Urgent Safeguarding (USL) and the Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity (RL), International Assistance (IA) requests and proposals to the Register of Good Safeguarding Practices (GSP); • Participate in the meetings of the Evaluation Body and provide support – before, during and after the meetings – to its Rapporteur in the preparation of the Body’s report to the Committee; • Edit summary records of the governing bodies of the 2003 Convention; • Edit other types of draft documents (such as webpage texts, briefs and notes) prepared with reference to the 2003 Convention by the Programme Management Unit of the Living Heritage Entity. **COMPETENCIES (Core / Managerial)** ------------------------------------ Accountability (C) Communication (C) Knowledge sharing and continuous improvement (C) Planning and organizing (C) Results focus (C) **-** ----- For detailed information, please consult the [UNESCO Competency Framework](https://en.unesco.org/sites/default/files/competency_framework_e.pdf). **REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS** --------------------------- ***Education*** - Advanced University degree (Master or equivalent) in the field of English literature, culture, social and human sciences or related field. ***Work Experience*** - Minimum five years of relevant experience in editing in the context of the United Nations or other international organizations. ***Skills/Competencies*** - Good organisational and coordination skill. - Excellent coordination, communication and interpersonal skills. - Discretion and capacity to deal efficiently and tactfully with people from different cultural backgrounds. - Flexibility in adjusting to work schedules and priorities, as well as ability to work under pressure. - Good computer skills (word, excel, electronic mail functionalities). - Familiarity with the United Nations language and terminology. ***Languages*** - Excellent native speaker’s level command of English. **DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS** ---------------------------- ***Work Experience*** - Previous experience with UNESCO. ***Skills/Competencies*** - Knowledge and understanding of the 2003 Convention for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage and its terminology. ***Languages*** - Good understanding of French. **APPLICATION PROCESS** ----------------------- Interested candidates are invited to submit their application, in English or in French, which should contain a financial proposal to be attached under the "Employment History" section (quoted in US dollars or euros only), including the costs per working day for i) editing work (approx. 465 000 words).
