Overview

Support public communication through English–Arabic translation and multimedia adaptation.

You have:

• Proven ability to translate written content from English into Arabic with a high level of accuracy and clarity.
• Excellent written Arabic skills, with strong attention to grammar, tone, and readability for public audiences.
• Ability to integrate Arabic translations into multimedia products, such as adding subtitles or on-screen text to videos or editing or adapting graphics to create Arabic-language versions.
• Basic proficiency with design or video-editing tools (e.g. Canva).
• Strong attention to detail and ability to meet deadlines in an online, collaborative work environment.
• Familiarity with United Nations terminology, media standards, or public information work is an asset, but not required.
• Ability to work independently and communicate clearly with a remote, multicultural team.
• Availability for assignments with short notice with a potential for night and weekend work.

The United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL) conducts public outreach and communications activities to support an inclusive, Libyan-led political process. A core element of these efforts is the Structured Dialogue, which provides a platform for Libyans from across the country and diverse backgrounds to identify concrete solutions to issues hindering the political and electoral process.

In a complex information environment where misinformation and disinformation can undermine public trust, UNSMIL produces timely, accurate, and accessible public information materials, including web stories, social media content, videos, and graphics. These products aim to explain the Mission’s work, promote informed public engagement, and counter false or misleading narratives.

High-quality Arabic-language communication is essential to ensuring these messages reach broad audiences across Libya.

UNSMIL is seeking multiple Online United Nations Volunteers to support the Public Information and Communications Section through English–Arabic translation and adaptation of public-facing communications materials.

Expected outputs:

• Translate up to 12 multimedia communications products (e.g. web stories, videos, graphics, etc.) from English into Arabic.

• Add Arabic subtitles or on-screen text to up 4 short videos, based on provided scripts or source text, and 4 graphics.

• Review translated content to ensure clarity, accuracy, and consistency with United Nations terminology and style.

Volunteers will be provided with source materials, terminology guidance, and branding instructions to support accurate translation and adaptation. Coordination will take place remotely, and limited availability for coordination calls via Zoom or Microsoft Teams may be requested to clarify tasks or provide feedback.
