IOM is a United Nations Migration Agency that works to help ensure the orderly and humane management of migration, to promote international cooperation on migration issues, to assist in the search for practical solutions to migration problems and to provide humanitarian assistance to migrants in need and internally displaced people. IOM activities that cut across these areas include the promotion of international migration law, policy debate and guidance, protection of migrants' rights, migration health and the gender dimension of migration. IOM acts with its partners to: Assist in meeting the growing operational challenges of migration management; Advance understanding of migration issues; Encourage social and economic development through migration; Uphold the human dignity and well-being of migrants.

The International Organization for Migration (IOM) country office, through its thematic areas such as Emergency Operations and Disaster Risk Reduction, Migration and Health, Migration & Development and Labour Migration and Mixed Migration, Counter-Trafficking and Border Management delivers and promotes comprehensive migration focused programmes which are beneficial, accessible, and equitable for migrants and mobile populations. The IOM Mozambique programmes, in close collaboration with partners, contributes towards the physical and social-economic well-being of migrants, enabling them and host communities to achieve social and economic development.

Migrants and mobile populations in Mozambique face many obstacles in accessing essential services due to irregular immigration status and inaccessibility of services.

The International UN University Volunteer will support communication and visibility team with communication and advocacy-related activities planning and reporting at the department level.

Within the delegated authority and under the supervision of Infrastructure Officer or his/her designated mandated representative(s), the UN Volunteer Engineering Support Officer will:

• Support the Infrastructure Officer in leading the process of the technical engineering assessment, and gathering the information needed to be used for project implementation purposes, in line with CRP requirement. • Support and where needed take the lead on developing tools, SOPs and guidelines for different infrastructure projects in coordination with the Infrastructure Officer and other Engineering unit team. • Work closely with RMU (Resource Management Unit) to track the process of contracting the vendors and following up with the payment process and supporting the inspection of achievements. • Support in initiating the technical documents for the infrastructure activities including the Bill of quantities, Drawings, Work Schedule and any needed documents. • Assist in the monitoring process of all infrastructure activities in the field and support the engineering team within CRP for better methodology of monitoring and inspections. • Support in Reporting (both internal and external reports) in weekly and bi-weekly basis to the project managers and share the related information in timely manner. • Assist the Infrastructure Officer in cross cutting activities with different project officer to ensure all activities are in line with the purpose intended to be done for. • Support in Applying the environmental risks and Mitigation for all construction activities, based on IOM and Donors requirements. • Support and enhance protection mainstreaming in all Infrastructure related activities throughout the project-cycle. This includes – but not limited to – safety and dignity of beneficiaries, understanding their diverse needs, enabling meaningful access to IOM’s services, adequate accountability to affected populations and participation and consultation. • Perform such other duties as may be required or assigned

Furthermore, UN Volunteers are encouraged to integrate the UN Volunteers programme mandate within their assignment and promote voluntary action through engagement with communities in the course of their work. As such, UN Volunteers should dedicate a part of their working time to some of the following suggested activities:

• Strengthen their knowledge and understanding of the concept of volunteerism by reading relevant UNV and external publications and take active part in UNV activities (for instance in events that mark International Volunteer Day); • Be acquainted with and build on traditional and/or local forms of volunteerism in the host country; • Provide annual and end of assignment self- reports on UN Volunteer actions, results and opportunities.
• Contribute articles/write-ups on field experiences and submit them for UNV publications/websites, newsletters, press releases, etc.; • Assist with the UNV Buddy Programme for newly-arrived UN Volunteers; • Promote or advise local groups in the use of online volunteering, or encourage relevant local individuals and organizations to use the UNV Online Volunteering service whenever technically possible.

The national and/or international level in context of revitalization and sustainability, or other relevant programmes; experience with Engineering is an asset, as is experience working in the UN or other international development organization.

Cabo Delgado Province The palm-lined beach of Praia do Wimbe is noted for its white sand and clear blue waters. On holiday in Mozambique visitors can walk along Wimbe beach to reach the lighthouse and nearby Praia do Farol beach. Mecufi and Mocímboa da Praia beaches are also recommended.
