Overview

Assist the Engineering Team in project implementation and quality monitoring.

You have:

  • At least two years of experience in building construction and project management.
  • University degree in Civil/Architecture Engineering or equivalent.
  • Fluency in English required.
  • Must be a national of or legal resident in Afghanistan.
  • Familiarity with processes of UN agencies and/or IFIs is an asset.

Contract

This is a UNV National Specialist contract. This kind of contract is known as National UN Volunteer. It is normally only for nationals. More about UNV National Specialist contracts.

Eligibility criteria

Minimum age: 22 years old. Applicants must be nationals of or legal residents in the country of assignment.

Description of task

Under the direct supervision of National Project Engineering Specialist, the national UNV will support the Engineering Team with the following tasks:

  • Assist the engineering team in the implementation of construction project according to design, technical specifications and documents.
  • Follow up work schedule for implementation of structural elements and inform engineering team
  • Perform all construction and related project activities as per approved design and drawing.
  • Keeping regular communication about the project status and current issues with the Project team
  • Assist the engineering team Monitoring all construction and installation activities to ensure quality work, timely implementation and budgetary discipline.
  • Identifying and follow up of any outstanding site or design related information required for the effective management and execution of the work.
  • Resolving with implementing partner issues of quality and slow progress identified during the execution of the works.
  • Identifying the needs and support the training of implementing partners, where required, to effectively monitor the quality of construction and in establishing site monitoring plans.
  • Assist the engineering team in the monitoring project work plan and schedule to identify potential impediments and work with third party and Government and implementing partners for timely action to avoid delays

Required degree level:

Bachelor degree or equivalent

  • Preferably in school construction and working with communities.

  • Strong communication skills;
  • Familiarity with processes of UN agencies and/or IFIs an asset;
  • Work individually as well as part of a team towards common goals;
