Overview

Provide technical advice on infrastructure projects.

You have:

  • Minimum age: 25 years old.
  • Bachelor degree or equivalent in electrical, mechanical or building services engineering or similar.
  • At least five years of electrical or mechanical engineering design experience in electrical projects of industrial buildings, project management at national level, or international companies/NGOs.
  • Fluent in English.
  • Working knowledge of French.

Contract

This is a UNV International Specialist contract. This kind of contract is known as International UN Volunteer. It is normally internationally recruited only. More about UNV International Specialist contracts.

Eligibility criteria

Minimum age: 25 years old. Nationals of the country of assignment are not eligible, except the assignments in Headquarters duty stations.

Description of task

Within the delegated authority and under the supervision of Admin Services Officer or his/her designated mandated representative(s), the UN Volunteer will:

  • Provide technical and professional advice on major and complex projects to innovate infrastructure, electrical systems and buildings, and on assessing, monitoring and evaluating implementation at different levels of projects;
  • Conduct technical evaluations and analyses of infrastructure;
  • Develop new concepts and approaches to improving or renovating existing installations to ensure a secure energy future, such as conversion to solar energy or other energy sources;
  • Complete the designing of building, including facility management, power load distribution of generators, transformers, solar energy, etc.;
  • Prepare tender documents for procurement of infrastructure services;
  • Coordinate and supervise the implementation of related projects, while ensuring that they adhere to the planning schedule; analyse and plan projects within the OSS Technical Team (OSS-REA-Quality Controller);
  • Conduct quality control from initiation to delivery of projects and end-products;
  • Provide technical assistance as required to country offices;
  • Work closely with REA on subcontracting management (ToRs, bidding technical review);
  • Revise and ensure compliance of delivered products with the TORS and acceptance criteria/quality;
  • Work closely with the Quality Controller (Design Office) on major projects, in order to serve as the link with the Manager, OSS;
  • Perform other duties as requested by management

Qualifications/Requirements

Required degree level:

Bachelor degree or equivalent

Education - Additional Comments:

  • Essential: Degree in electrical, mechanical or building services engineering or similar, and for

WHO staff only, equivalent combination of professional training or self-study/work experience

Desirable: B. Sc. in electrical, mechanical or building services engineering.

Experience remark:

  • Essential: At least five years of electrical or mechanical engineering, design experience in electrical projects of industrial buildings, project management (construction, mechanical, electrical) at national level, or within multinational companies, or international NGOs or UN agencies. Relevant experience in project management and design, drafting ITB and assessment, electrical or mechanical engineering design across the range of building services/systems. Experience in site investigation and construction reviews.

Other desired/mandatory required technical knowledge

  • Excellent organizational and managerial skills with the ability to multi-task, identify and solve problems;
  • Excellent interpersonal and leadership skills;
  • Sound ability to negotiate and deal with officials with tact and diplomacy;
  • Ability to write in a clear and concise manner;

Good knowledge and experience with AutoCAD, or ArchiCAD, MS

Language skills:

  • English(Mandatory), Level - Fluent
  • French(Mandatory), Level - Working Knowledge
