Organizational Setting

The Engineer (medical equipment) will work under overall guidance of WHO Representative to Myanmar, and supervision of the Head of the WHO TB Team, and in close collaboration with the National TB programme (NTP). The Engineer will provide support to WHO Myanmar and to the national TB programme for collaborative activities, as per MoHS-WHO collaborative workplans 2020-2021, WHO country cooperation strategy for Myanmar, and relevant indicators and targets of National Health Plan 2017-2021 and Myanmar Sustainable Development Plan 2018-2030.

Major Duties and Responsibilities

  • To undertake repair and maintenance of, and liaise with, relevant companies related to equipment in TB reference laboratories and X-ray equipment under NTP****.
  • To carry out installation, calibration, module replacement and troubleshooting etc of X pert MTB-RIF machines of NTP.
  • To repair and maintain microscopes (both ZN and FM) under NTP across the country.
  • To facilitate in training related to installation of new equipment, maintenance and trouble shooting
  • To be on call and perform assignments as necessary even out of office hour

To conduct field visits to Regional/State level BSL 3 Laboratories (Culture Lab), X-pert MTB/RIF centres and other TB laboratories and submit supervision report timely to NTP

To assist in Laboratory Logistics Management System ( e.g. unpacking and checking)

To participate actively in emergency situation like installation of Gene X pert platform for testing of SARS-CoV-2 and other infection diseases.

  • To perform any appropriate duty as required
  • To submit quarterly assignment reports and end-of-assignment report to WHO Myanmar.

Work Relations and Partnerships

As part of the support provided as a WHO team member to the National TB programme, the Engineer (medical equipment) together with staff from NTRL and UMTBC undertake repair, maintenance of equipment in TB reference laboratories and X-ray equipment with NTP staff. Further, liaise in maintenance and repair of Laboratory equipment and digital X-ray machine by NGI (natural green initiative), Myanmar Zircon Co Ltd, and Sea Lion Co Ltd, X-pert machine installation, calibration module replacement, in collaboration with laboratories’ staff from government, as well as troubleshooting, problem solving with Cephid South East Asia network, and relevant quality assurance networks.

Impact of functions

WHO support NTP in order to maintain equipment at reference laboratories, X-pert machines and Digital X-ray across the country well, related to diagnosis and ready to use. As a result, there should be no diagnosis or treatment monitoring delay. This in turn assists to reduce spread of transmission among communities and helps prevent the development of drug resistant TB.

Qualifications

Educational Background

  • Bachelor of Engineering {Electrical (or) Mechanical Engineering}

Professional Experience & Language

  • Minimum three years working experience in the maintenance of and liaise with relevant companies related to equipment in laboratories will be an asset
  • Experience and expertise with low level firmware, software, hardware and mechanical engineering
