Danish Refugee Council, one of the world’s leading humanitarian NGOs, is currently looking for a highly qualified Emergency Team Leader, the Emergency Team Leader supervises team members, delivers technical support and guidance, ensures the quality of planning, implementation, and follow-up of all technical aspects of the sector activities being implemented by DRC, and developing and maintaining good relations with persons of concern, relevant stakeholders, and other humanitarian actors, and provide leadership and oversight to the team, offering them support and guidance to ensure their effective performance. Additionally, the Emergency Team Leader focuses on ensuring the successful execution of sector activities by monitoring their planning, implementation, and follow-up, while also fostering positive relationships with individuals and organizations involved in the humanitarian efforts to support the coordination and implementation of DRC's sector activities.

Responsibilities and Tasks

This role has an area follow-up and ensures compliance with DRC procedures and guidelines within the area. The role contributes to the development of area strategies, which are translated into action plans and day-to-day tasks. The role provides support and/or technical guidance to base operations.

Your main duties and responsibilities will be:

Management

• Lead and manage the team (including people planning, performance, well-being and development)

• Ensure effective planning and quality implementation of the sector/support activities

• Ensure daily monitoring of area

• Asses the daily quality

• Provide technical support and inputs

• Reporting

Programming & Operations

• Ensure efficient and effective program implementation while following the budget and work plan

• Participate in preparing monthly/quarterly/annual highlights/reports and proposals and budgets for donors

• Lead the team in carrying out monitoring and evaluation exercises

Coordination and representation

• Collaborate with relevant internal and external technical experts on sector relevant issues

• Represent DRC at meetings and other relevant technical coordination meetings

• Ensure integration with other DRC sectors

Project development

• Develop project plans and budgets for funding

• Develop projects tools

• Project implementation and reporting

• Monitor and evaluate projects

Logistics/Finance

• Support the monitoring of financial commitments and expenditures against budgets and provide timely feedback on budget follow-up

• Plan and coordinate proactively logistics and movements of staff from and to different operational areas

• Initiate procurements and ensure their execution

• Ensure distribution plans are prepared and shared with logistics in a timely manner

As Team Leader the post-holder is responsible for the following:

• Accountable for people management of employees, usually working in the same area of work

• Accountable for ensuring that agreed work plans and tasks set by the next-level up Manager are implemented on time

• Hiring and termination of employees and conducting performance appraisals (closely overseen by the next-level manager)

Supervisor responsibilities:

• Coordinates the daily activities of small teams, often comprised of subordinates and/or employees carrying out similar tasks

• Does not have direct line management responsibility for staff, but may contribute to recruitment and/or performance appraisal of members of the team

• Implements the manager’s decisions through the work of subordinate employees, often playing a role in deciding how to do it; and how to achieve the objective set by the manager.

About you:

• Minimum 3 years of management experience at a mid to senior level, preferably with experience in the field of humanitarian response and refugee protection working for an international NGO, UN agency, relevant ministry, or local authority.

• Minimum 3 years of practical experience in sector area working for an INGO

• Master's degree in political science, international development, economics or other relevant field

• Proven management skills and competence in people management

• Commitment to learning and implementing organizational policies and procedures.

• Excellent skills in MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint

• Full professional proficiency in English

• Field experience
