NRC resumed operations in Sudan in 2020, providing humanitarian assistance, protection, and durable solutions. Our country programme integrates all of NRC’s six core competencies (camp management, education, ICLA, livelihoods, shelter, and WASH), and provides a rapid response capacity (including for the recent refugee emergency in eastern Sudan), and thematic capacities for cash and markets-based approaches, advocacy, digital modes of assistance, and co-leading various technical and strategic coordination platforms.

The purpose of this position is to oversee day to day implementation of the emergency activities under the guidance of Emergency Coordinator or team leader. The emergency assistant is also responsible to ensure transparency, accountability, and quality of work on the ground adhere to NRC policies and are in consideration with humanitarian principles.

Duties & Responsibilities

  1. Line-manage all staff in area of operation.
  2. Ensure financial management of emergency program budgets in area of operation.
  3. Assist in the development concept notes, proposals and periodical reports.
  4. Present NRC emergency program to all stakeholders in area of operation.
  5. Ensure compliance with NRC policies, guidelines and standard.
  6. Actively participate in emergency assessment, distribution and monitoring and ensure their coordination with relevant government and non-government actors.
  7. Responsible for the distribution of emergency commodities in the field based on NRC’s emergency distribution guidelines.
  8. Acts as a link between NRC and beneficiary communities providing information on NRC’s activities, profile, mandate and distribution rules and procedures.
  9. Correct data and enter household emergency data on kobo and for early warning systems.
  10. Responsible for distribution site preparation, beneficiary communication and coordination.
  11. Assists the line manager in identifying eligible beneficiaries for assistance.
  12. Supervises and monitors cash for work and in-Kind initerventions in the field.
  13. Assists the line manager in preparing assessment reports.
  14. Assists the line manager in preparing survey reports.
  15. Assist the line manager with all other Emergency-related tasks as directed.

Our Ideal Candidate:

  • Bachelor’s degree preferably in Social sciences, development studies or other relevant discipline.
  • Minimum 1 year of experience working in same level of position or above.
  • Experience in community mobilization and conduction distributions is an added advantage.
  • Proven experience from working as a Project Officer/Assistant in a humanitarian/emergency context
  • Experience in emergency response working with UN or INGO or national NGO is an added advantage.
  • Good working knowledge of English.
  • Knowledge of the local context and local dynamics.
  • Political and cultural awareness and experience of working where insecurity is a major issue.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously. ‎
  • Ability to work independently and creatively. ‎
  • Excellent computer skills including good knowledge of MS Word and MS Excel.
  • Solid field experience, preferably from refugee/IDP programmes.
  • Proven communication, interpersonal and leadership skills
  • Experience working in rapid onset emergency response and preparedness.
