Org. Setting and Reporting

This position is located within the United Nations Organization Stabilization Mission in the Democratic Republic of Congo (MONUSCO) in Engineering Section in Beni. The Electrician will report to the Electrical Unit Supervisor in the Field Engineering Office.

Responsibilities

Within delegated authority, working within the framework of the Engineering Section/Unit, the Electrician at this level will be responsible for the following general duties: 1. Routine Electrical maintenance and repairs. • Receives approved electrical work requests and instructions from the Electrical Unit Supervisor. • Carries out routine maintenance and repair works for all installed electrical equipment and other related equipment, at the field mission facilities as it may be required. • Periodically inspects and report on electrical work defects for low and high voltage installation at the field mission facilities. 2. New Electrical Installations: With the approval of the Unit Supervisor, carryout new electrical installations for new facilities in the area of operations: • Carries out technical inspection of incoming electrical materials in the field mission. • Assists in other technical routine work as it may be required by electrical mechanical unit supervisor. Performs other duties as assigned by the unit supervisor.

Education

High school diploma or equivalent is required.

Job - Specific Qualification

A valid driver license is required. Technical diploma obtained either from a Technical College/Trade School or through an accepted national apprenticeship programme is required. Recognized and valid National Electricians License/Certification is required.

Work Experience

A minimum of two (02) years of practical experience, with an organizations or company, in installation, repair and servicing of electrical distribution systems, electric motors, switching gear, industrial electrical installations in a private, commercial or military environment is required.

Languages

English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. Fluency in French, (both oral and written) is required. Knowledge in English is desirable.

Assessment

Evaluation of qualified candidates may include an assessment exercise or competency-based interview or both.
