Result of Service Evaluation, Analysis and Implementation. Conducts preliminary site investigations to obtain field data such as power requirements/capacity demands, fuel requirements and cost implication, technical potential and other related information. Develops technical data regarding materials, sizes, dimensions, and quantities and costs to be incorporated in formal specifications. Liaises with other engineers and mission specialists responsible for related specialized phases to arrive at mutually satisfactory approaches to problems by exchanging and comparing data. Conducts investigations to develop improved designs and power related techniques. Conducts research on development of new technical systems, and follows development to identify improved methods and equipment. Analyzes project proposals to ensure technical feasibility and to ensure that project objectives are attainable within prescribed resources. Produces cost data and estimates on engineering-related requirements of current and planned field missions. Elaboration and review of the mechanical and electrical designs, which include detailed elaborate on fire protection and safety, heating and Cooling system drawings, sanitary system drawing (including water, plumbing etc.) illustrating both layouts and schematics for kitchens/wall fixtures in conformity with Electrical and Architectural Plans. Preparation of technical responses to queries from potential bidders of UNVMC bidding processes involving designs, execution or supervision of infrastructure works and participation in the Evaluation Committees. Design and calculation for the installation of power transformers, water pump systems where is required

Duties and Responsibilities Responsibilities: Within delegated authority, the Electrical/Electronic/Mechanical Engineer at this level will apply professional engineering knowledge and expertise in performing the following duties:

Administration. Applies commonly used engineering calculations, practices and precedents in completing portions of larger projects related to the design, construction, or repair of buildings, roads, bridges, airfields, helipads, docks, waste disposal systems, flood control systems, water treatment facilities, electrical power generation and distribution systems, environmental control systems, field defense, mine detection and clearance, and other related structures and activities in the field. Facilities management in diversified environments (from urban to rural) and strong contract management skills are also part of the requirement. Prepare reports and other associated engineering related information, for progress reporting, and special reports for quality, cost or schedule variances, etc. Draft responses to both internal and external audit observations on engineering tasks and activities in the mission.

Qualifications/special skills Academic Qualifications: An Advanced university degree in electrical, electronic, mechanical engineering, or other related fields is required Experience: A minimum of five (5) years of progressively responsible experience in Electrical/Electronic/ mechanical engineering or related fields. The incumbent demonstrates knowledge of electrical power generation, distribution, switching and control with familiarity in overseeing complex engineering works. Having Renewable Energy experience will be considered as an added advantage. Knowledge in Colombian rules and regulations is highly required (Technical Regulations for Electrical Installations – RETIE). Language: English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For the position advertised, fluency in English and Spanish (both oral and written) is required.
