Job Description

In response to the arrival of refugees in Greece in 2015, the IRC has been offering SMS, WASH, Livelihoods, and Protection services to children, women, and people in need of mental health support. IRC Hellas currently has offices in Athens, Lesvos, and Thessaloniki.

IRC Hellas supports unaccompanied children (UAC) aged 16-18, to smoothly transition to adulthood by providing safe accommodation, case management, educational and legal services, life-skills sessions, school enrollment, and recreational activities.

We are looking for an Educator to be responsible for delivering Greek language classes and educational services according to beneficiary needs in our Supported Independent Living (SIL) apartments.

Responsibilities:

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

• Implementing the education program through the realization and planning of daily lessons related to the Greek language.

• Design and build on the educational curriculum, targeting and addressing the needs of UAC.

• Ensuring that all non-formal education activities are of high quality, follow established curricula and address beneficiaries needs.

• Evaluating objectively and regularly the beneficiaries’ performance and learning progress

• Referring UAC to other Non-Formal Education (NFE) activities, such as English classes, computer lessons etc according to their needs.

• Organizing trips to museums or other cultural activities for the UAC.

• Proactively working to identify issues related to beneficiaries’ attendance and report them to the Unit Coordinator if needed.

• Ensuring relevant project data (academic records, lessons’ plans etc.), are accurately collected and updated on a weekly and monthly basis

Program Coordination Responsibilities:

Propose and develop other support services that serve the program goals and clients’ needs

• Maintain an accurate and up-to-date management system, case notes and other electronic files

• Work with the Unit Coordinator to develop training curricula that are up-to-date, meet training objectives and are being effectively and uniformly implemented

• Support referral pathways from IRC to other employment, business development and vocational training providers

• Any other task designated by the Unit Coordinator as requested

Coordination and Administration:

• Coordinate closely with the team to ensure effective implementation of the educational activities.

• Participate in regular team meetings.

Key Working Relationships:

Position Reports to: SIL Unit Coordinator

• *Other Internal and/or external contacts:**

Internal: Child Protection Manager, Social Worker, Caregivers, Lawyer, Interpreters, Headmasters, HR, Finance, Supply Chains departments, School Teachers, Integration focal point of the General Secretariat for Vulnerable Persons and Institutional Protection

External: Relevant working groups, peer and partner agencies.

This position will be based in the SIL apartments and occasionally in Athens office, Greece

Requirements:

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in Education or a related field,

• Demonstrated experience teaching Greek as a foreign language

• Certificate proving knowledge of Excel, Word and Internet

• Experience in curriculum development and implementation

• Experience delivering classes in non-traditional contexts and familiarity with new educational methods and technologies (e-learning platforms) is desirable.

• Proven track record to work with consideration and respect for cross-cultural differences

• Excellent interpersonal skills, with proficiency in written and spoken Greek and English

• Very strong organizational and communication skills

• Passion for helping people to learn and demonstrate integrity.

• Desired: Experience teaching refugee/migrant population

Professional Standards:

• All IRC employees are required to adhere to The IRC Way Standards for Professional Conduct and the IRC country employment policies.

• Maintain confidentiality

• While in IRC sites, all IRC staff must wear appropriate IRC visibility.

• Must successfully complete criminal background check and submit clean criminal record

• Able to participate in physical activities with children that may include running, bending, stooping, and moderate lifting

Work environment:

Working hours: schedule during morning hours and afternoon hours.

Travel and other requirements: travel requirements between the apartments within Attica and occasionally to other areas of IRC programs within Athens.
