How can you make a difference?

You will support the implementation of the UNICEF Education programme COVID-19 response and broader Education in Emergencies (EiE) and Disaster Risk Resilience (DRR) support to the Lao PDR Ministry of Education and Sports (MoES). You will be responsible for managing, implementing, monitoring, evaluating and reporting the progress of the education COVID-19 response projects and EiE and DRR interventions within the country programme and MoES-UNICEF Rolling Work Plan 2022-23. You will provide technical guidance and management support throughout the programming processes to facilitate the administration and achievement of results on education programmes/projects to mitigate the impact of COVID-19, measure learning loss and support learning recovery, strengthen emergency preparedness and sector resilience to improve learning outcomes and equitable and inclusive education, especially for children who are marginalized, disadvantaged and excluded in society.

You will also contribute to achievement of results according to plans, allocation, results based-management approaches and methodology (RBM), as well as UNICEF’s Strategic Plans, standards of performance, and accountability framework.

Key functions and accountabilities include:

  1. Support Education COVID-19 response implementation, coordination and monitoring, towards Learning Recovery
  2. Support strengthen education sector learning assessments and implement activities that also measures learning loss
  3. Support to strengthen emergency preparedness and disaster risk reduction for the Education sector, including integration of climate change activities
  4. Support knowledge management and documentation of COVID-19 response activities

To qualify as an advocate for every child you will have…

  • An advanced university degree (Master’s or higher) in education, economics, psychology, sociology, or another relevant technical field.
  • A minimum of five years of relevant professional experience in programme planning, management, and/or research in education is required. Experience in supporting education COVID-19 response in education is considered as an asset. Experience in supporting learning outcomes assessment for students, including large-scale assessments is considered as an asset. Experience working in a developing country is considered as an asset. Relevant experience in a UN system agency or organization is considered as an asset
  • Fluency in English is required. Knowledge of another official UN language (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian or Spanish) or a local language is an asset.
