Burkina Faso is the epicentre of a multidimensional humanitarian crisis affecting the Sahel region, driven by a combination of factors including armed violence and insecurity; demographic pressures; climate change; and health crises. From January to June 2023, there was an increase in the level of impact in terms of human casualties and the internal displacement of civilians due to violence and more than 1.3 million people are living in more than 40 besieged towns and villages. Violence has led to the internal displacement of more than 2,062,534 people and disrupting access to essential social services for 5,500,000 people in need of humanitarian assistance. As of 31 May, 6,149 schools are closed in Burkina Faso due to the ongoing attacks, affecting over a million children (49 per cent girls) and 31,000 teachers (32 per cent women). Nevertheless, UNICEF continues to deliver its programmes in various locations despite the volatility of the security context.

To qualify as an advocate for every child you will have…

  • An advanced university degree in one of the following fields is required: education, economics, psychology, sociology, or another relevant technical field. *A first University Degree in a relevant field combined with 2 additional years of professional experience may be accepted in lieu of an Advanced University Degree.
  • A minimum of 5 years] of relevant professional experience in programme planning, management, and/or research in education is required.
  • Developing country work experience and/or familiarity with emergency is considered an asset.
  • Demonstrated experience managing multi-million dollars grants and/or grants with heavy components of infrastructure construction is an asset
  • Knowledge of internal UNICEF procurement procedures is an asset
  • Relevant experience in a UN system agency or organization is considered as an asset.
  • Fluency in French and good working knowledge, especially the ability to write reports, of English is required .

UNICEF appointments are subject to medical clearance. Issuance of a visa by the host country of the duty station, which will be facilitated by UNICEF, is required for IP positions. Eligible UNICEF International Professional (IP) Staff Members on fixed-term, continuing or permanent contracts applying to a Temporary Appointment, which is dedicated to L3 (or L2) Response, may be able to retain a lien and their fixed-term entitlements. The conditions of the temporary assignment will vary depending on the status of their post and their current tour of duty, and relocation entitlements may be limited as per the relevant policies.
