Major Responsibilities:

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

- Lead the planning and implementation of the IRC Atlanta New Root’s Youth Leaders Gardening for Growth program at two elementary schools and Clarkston High School in DeKalb County School District schools. - Build and maintain good relationships with school personnel and work with school staff to conduct targeted student recruitment. - Conduct engaging, garden-based classroom lessons to elementary students about food, gardens, and nutrition. - Build elementary school garden sites that engage the school and greater community in garden activities and programs, working alongside school leadership, teachers, parents, and students to create a sustainable garden plan. - Engage Youth Food Justice Interns from Clarkston High School in a youth-led leadership program at the elementary schools supporting them in, planning and leading garden and nutrition-based activities. - Conduct community outreach aimed to bring BIPOC farmers and STEAM professionals to provide relevant content for garden based programs to elementary school sites. - Conduct accurate program tracking and reporting to ensure program compliance with its goals through required reporting to funders and internal stakeholders. - Collaborate with Youth Program team members to develop cross-program connections. - Attend Youth Education Team meetings and complete administrative duties, including but not limited to reporting, timesheets, and expense reports. - Provide training and supervision to interns, and volunteers. - Other duties as assigned.

Job Requirements:

Education: Bachelor’s degree in education, social work or related field of study preferred.

Work Experience:

- Minimum of four years related professional experience such as: teaching outdoor, nutrition, and/or environmental education to early or elementary school aged students preferred. - Experience nurturing gardens and engaging community, especially youth in maintaining gardens. - Experience working with refugee and immigrant children and or youth in school settings for community-based food programs, popular education, food sovereignty projects, and/or related field required desired - Demonstrated experience with community organizing and engagement, particularly with newcomer communities and related to food justice and equity, food systems, agriculture or health/nutrition preferred, - Prior experience working with low-income, new immigrant youth in a non-traditional setting, - Strong practice of cultural humility through facilitation, communication, and organizational skills.

Preferred:

- Basic carpentry/light construction and gardening/farming experience. - Adaptable, creative and collaborative problem solver, self-starter, willing learner. - Strong project coordination experience including writing, presentation, intern/volunteer supervision, budget management skills, and computer literacy. - Ability to safely lift ~ 30 lbs.

Demonstrated Skills & Competencies:

- A belief in the ability of all youth to reach their education, career, and personal goals. - Demonstrated competency in program planning and implementation skills, including the ability to manage large groups of students and the ability to think creatively and strategically. - Initiative, creativity, and ability to complete projects independently. - Excellent verbal and written communication skills. - Fluent in English, both spoken and written; proficiency in language(s) spoken by client group is desired (Swahili, Arabic, Dari/Pashto, Burmese, French, Spanish). - Ability to effectively communicate and work as a team member in a cross-cultural environment. - Superior time management and organizational skills. - Computer literacy required. - Must have access to reliable transportation and maintain valid driver’s license and insurance coverage.

Working Environment:

- A combination of standard office environment, remote work, and ‘field’ time within the service delivery area to perform the above outlined responsibilities. - May require occasional weekend and/or evening work.

Compensation: Posted pay ranges apply to US-based candidates. Ranges are based on various factors including the labor market, job type, internal equity, and budget. Exact offers are calibrated by work location, individual candidate experience and skills relative to the defined job requirement.
