Job Description

Position: Education Project Technical Assistant – French speaking

Reports to: Education Project Officer

Supervision of: None

Duty station: Tripoli, Libya

Travel: N/A. Regular travel to project field locations

Duration and type of contract: 12 months, renewable (based on performance and funding)

  1. Role and responsibilities The purpose of the French speaking Education Project Assistant is to assist mainly in the day-to-day implementation of education and PSS activities for The French, English speaking migrant community children and adolescents (AFCOM) and the Arabic speaking nationals and refugees, under supervision of the Education Project Officer. Activities include but not limited to; NRC Better Learning Programme (BLP), teacher professional development, non-formal education classes, adolescent girls/boys’ clubs, outreach activities.

The following is a brief description of the role.

Generic responsibilities (max 10) These responsibilities shall be the same for all positions with the same title. The responsibilities shall be short and essential. Details belong in the Work and Professional Development Plan.

  • Adhere to NRC policies, tools, handbooks and guidelines.
  • Strict adherence to the NRC Code of Conduct and Child Safeguarding Policy
  • Assist with the implementation of the education project according to the plan of action.
  • Prepare and develop status reports as required by management.
  • Ensure proper filing of documents.
  • Promote and share ideas for technical improvement.
  • Make decisions on the ground with limited or remote supervision.

    Specific responsibilities These responsibilities shall be adapted to the particularities of the job location and context, phase of operation, strategic focus and type of program intervention. This section shall be revised whenever a new employee is hired or the context changes significantly.

  • Responsible for implementing the planned education activities at field level under supervision of the Education Project Officer.

  • Monitor, supervise, and provide directions to incentive-based teachers and volunteers in line with project work-plans and objectives including weekly task plans.
  • Develop and regularly update classes/training schedules and outreach plans for assigned activities.
  • Regular travel to field to ensure ongoing monitoring, support, and reporting of activities at field level.
  • Support and participate in teacher trainings, community engagement initiatives, outreach activities and data collection in coordination with Education Project Officer.
  • Ensure direct communication and feedback with beneficiaries and relevant host communities.
  • Regularly travel to the field to support education, recreation and psychosocial support (PSS) activities.
  • Support and implement distributions of teaching and learning materials.
  • Any other task relevant to the position as requested by line manager.

    Critical interfaces By interfaces, NRC means processes and projects that are interlinked with other departments/units or persons. Relevant interfaces for this position are:

  • Direct: Education Project Officer (PO), Incentive-based teachers and volunteers

  • Indirect: Education team leader (TL), Education Project Manager
  • Other Education and Shelter/WASH/ICLA/Cash staff supporting integrated approach.
  • The support staff (security, logistics and HR) as delegated by line manager.

    Scale and scope of position Staff:

supervision of French and English speaking incentive staff

Stakeholders:

Camp management authorities, other NGOs, community groups, local education authorities as delegated by Education Team Leader.

Budgets:

No budgetary responsibilities

Information:

Responsible for weekly site visit reports and indicator tracking, Complaint and Feedback Mechanism (CFM)

Legal or compliance:

Responsible for reporting any code of conduct violation or child protection concern to line manager immediately
