You have:
- Experience working in education programs in low-resource or development contexts.
- Knowledge of inclusive, learner-centered and rights-based approaches in education.

- Experience in developing or adapting learning materials, technical guides, or manuals, and implementation guides.
- Facilitation and training skills, both in-person and virtual.
- Strong analytical and organizational skills to support planning, implementation of education programs.
- Cultural sensitivity and adaptability, especially when working in diverse community or school settings.
- Good writing and documentation skills for preparing reports, knowledge products, case studies, or lessons learned to inform learning and programmatic decisions.
- Proficiency in digital tools and platforms (e.g., MS Office, Google Workspace, or education-related platforms).
Contract
This is a UNV International Specialist contract. This kind of contract is known as International UN Volunteer. It is normally internationally recruited only. More about UNV International Specialist contracts.
Since before 2014, the Ministry of Education of the Dominican Republic (MINERD), with the support of UNICEF, has been implementing key education programs aimed at fostering inclusive, safe, and quality learning environments. These efforts include the National Strategy for a Culture of Peace, the Inclusive Education Model for children with disabilities, and initiatives to strengthen foundational learning in literacy and numeracy at the primary level, the CON BASE program, as well as improve learning outcomes at the secondary level, Secundaria Avanza. All four programmatic areas are entering new phases of expansion and institutionalization between 2025 and 2027. The UN Volunteer will contribute to the development of technical tools, capacity-building resources, and practical guidance to support implementation and monitoring across these priority areas. Their work will help ensure that all children, particularly those at risk of exclusion, benefit from equitable and meaningful educational opportunities.
Under the direct supervision of the Education Officer, UNICEF Dominican Republic. The UN Volunteer will undertake the following tasks:
Collaborate with government counterparts and partners to develop, adapt, and review training materials, technical tools, and implementation guidelines aligned with the objectives of UNICEF-supported education programs.
Support the design and facilitation of capacity-building workshops and training sessions for educators, school leaders, and technical teams.
Assist in strengthening coordination and communication between UNICEF, the Ministry of Education, and other stakeholders to build effective partnerships.
Contribute to monitoring the progress of the scale-up plans at local and regional levels, collecting feedback, and identifying areas for improvement.
Provide technical and operational support for the implementation of both programs in schools, including review of consultant deliverables, development of collaboration agreements and drafting of Terms of Reference (ToRs).
Support documentation of lessons learned and best practices to inform future phases of the programs.
Assist in the preparation of technical reports and communication materials related to the implementation and outcomes of the scale-up plans.

The Dominican Republic is a vibrant Caribbean country known for its warm climate, rich culture, and hospitable people. The UN Volunteer will be based in Santo Domingo, the capital city. Public transportation options are available but may be limited in reliability, safety, uber is recommended as the safest and most reliable option to move around the city. While Santo Domingo offers a good quality of life, including access to supermarkets, healthcare, entertainment, and diverse dining options, volunteers should be mindful of occasional power outages and traffic congestion. Safety precautions are recommended, particularly when moving around at night or in unfamiliar areas.
