How can you make a difference?

I. Education program design, planning monitoring, data analysis and progress reporting:

a. Contribute to development of Jubbaland State Education Program RWP. b. Contribute to development of Education Program Emergency Response Plan for the South & Central regions. c. Contribute to results monitoring including data analysis, tracking performance of Education program Jubaland state RWP. d. Conduct effective and regular monitoring of the education projects implemented by UNICEF partners and provide regular weekly updates and monthly progress reports to the UNICEF CSZ Head of Education Section. e. The Education Officer will provide technical support to partners and build their capacity to ensure quality and timely implementation of all projects implemented in Gedo region. f. Support preparation and implementation of Mid-year and End year reviews with State MoE and CSO partners in Jubaland.

II. Facilitation of joint KFW Programme as well as all projects that are emergency related:

a. Facilitate all activities related to the implementation of the joint KfW funded resilient programme. b. Contribute in strengthening cross sectoral convergence and integration with other sections internally and externally with other UN Agencies (WFP, FAO). c. S/he will pay attention to visibility of the UNICEF.

III. Emergency:

a. Support functioning of Education Sub-Cluster/sector coordination activities. b. Contribute to development of Education Program Emergency Response Plan for the FMS. c. The TA will provide support to all emergency projects and their implementation.

IV. Representation in Meetings:

a. Actively participate in various meetings of partners in Gedo region such as Education Cluster Meeting, Education Sector Coordination meetings, Resilience initiative coordination meetings, KfW coordination meetings and other relevant meetings.

V. Data Collection and reporting:

a. Collect monthly data from UNICEF implementing partners for reporting on Resilience Programme and other UNICEF education projects.

VI. Participate in needs assessments:

a. Conduct education needs assessments and education situation analyses as may be required to start a new programme or project in Gedo region.

VII. Work with government counterparts:

a. Support Ministry of Education Regional Education Officer for Gedo and lower Jubba regions to coordinate education partners working in the region.

VIII. Provide support and facilitate the resilience initiative: a. Be UNICEF focal point for humanitarian education, education cluster and education component of Resilience Initiative in Gedo region.

IX. Any other tasks:

In addition, the TA will carry out any other tasks as set by the Supervisor.

To qualify as an advocate for every child you will have…

  • A university degree, preferably in Education or related technical field relevant to UNICEF programmes.
  • A minimum of one year of professional experience in programme planning, management - preferably in a humanitarian response in the field and/or research in education is required.
  • Experience working in a developing country is considered as an asset.
  • Active field work experience in emergency operations, including previous experience living in hardship duty stations is a must.
  • Previous experience with project management and M&E is desirable.
  • Good written and oral presentation skills.
  • Knowledge and field experience in UNICEF programmes with UN or another UN agency, especially in complex emergency environment is an asset.
  • Specialised training and experience in Education in Emergencies response, Education Cluster coordination, and INEE Minimum Standards is desirable.
  • Fluency in Somalia and English is required.
