Contract

This is a UNV National Specialist contract. This kind of contract is known as National UN Volunteer. It is normally only for nationals. More about UNV National Specialist contracts.

Eligibility criteria

Minimum age: 22 years old. Applicants must be nationals of or legal residents in the country of assignment.

Description of task

Under the direct supervision of the Education Specialist and in coordination with the education teams in the Field Offices (particularly Jayapura and Makassar), the UNV volunteer will undertake the following tasks:

• Facilitate communication with the Ministry of Education and Culture and other governmental organizations regarding mainstreaming learning improvement programs into national systems.
• Convene and engage with internal and external experts and partners including government officials, civil society partners and teacher preparation colleges to promote learning with special attention to foundational skills. This includes supporting the organization of a national conference on learning.
• Support UNICEF education team in facilitating the implementation of studies on issues related to learning and teacher absenteeism. This includes supporting the contractual arrangements, data collection and coordination.
• Identify and establish relationships with CSO and academic partners at the national level for strengthening UNICEF’s advocacy for learning and foundational skills.
• Maintain close coordination and collaboration with the education teams in the Field Offices (particularly Jayapura and Makassar) on issues related to the scaling up of the foundational skills program.
• Keep abreast of national priorities, programs and initiatives on learning and coordinate internally towards aligning the interventions of UNICEF and Implementing Partners with these.
• Provide inputs to the development of donor proposals and contribute to resource mobilization efforts.

Qualifications/Requirements

Required degree level:

Bachelor degree or equivalent

Education - Additional Comments:

A first University Degree in education, social sciences or a relevant field.

Required experience:

24 Months

Experience remark:

• Two year of relevant work experience in education or other relevant field.
• Experience as a volunteer or researcher in a relevant domain may be considered in lieu of work experience.

Language skills:

• Indonesian(Mandatory), Level - Fluent
• English(Mandatory), Level - Fluent

Education policy and planning, curriculum development and teacher training, Capacity building of non-governmental organizations, Early childhood, compulsory and higher education

Area of expertise details:

• Excellent Bahasa Indonesian and English written and verbal communication skills, with strong interpersonal and presentation skills.
