This is a UNV International Youth contract. This kind of contract is known as International UN Volunteer. It is normally internationally recruited only. More about UNV International Youth contracts.

Description of task

Under the direct supervision of UNICEF Chief of Education, the UN Youth Volunteer will undertake the following tasks:

  • Assist the Ministry of Education in organizing the meetings of the Local Education Group and write he minutes of the meetings
  • Assist the Ministry of Education in preparing and organizing the annual joint sector reviews and the mid-term review of the education sector plan:
    • Preparing the Tors of the reviews and required data collection tools;
    • Monitor the preparation of the Annual implementation report (prior to the reviews);
    • Monitor and assist in the preparation of the reviews’ outputs (reviews reports, updated plans, aide-memoires including recommendations and follow, etc.)
  • Assist the Ministry of Education in preparing the ToRs for additional sector analyses as requested.
  • Assist the programme specialist in the monitoring of the GPE-supported COVID project;
  • Undertake field missions to implementation sites;
  • Collect and anlyse required data and information for the project performance indicators;

Qualifications/Requirements

Required degree level:

Bachelor degree or equivalent

Education - Additional Comments:

Preferably a master’s degree in education or related areas

Required experience:

Experience remark:

  • Up to 2 years of experience working in educational institutions or managing educational programmes, experience coordinating the work of different stakeholders preferably in the area of education.
  • The incumbent is expected to have coordinated the work of many stakeholders for the achievement of common goals. A proven experience of a work in a multicultural setting is an asset.

Language skills:

  • French(Mandatory), Level - Working Knowledge
  • Portuguese(Optional), Level - Working Knowledge

Learning Expectations

Learning and development are a central part of the UN Youth Volunteer’s assignment and take place before, during and after his or her assignment in the field. Ideally, offering diverse opportunities for learning and development aim to strengthen the volunteer’s skills and competences, improve the quality of the assignment and keep the volunteer’s motivation high.

Learning elements for the UN Youth Volunteer include the development of:

  • Professional skills: including specific competencies and reflection on assignment-related abilities; and on-the-job skills such as time management, problem solving, team building; and career preparedness such as interview skills, CV preparation, job searching.

  • Interpersonal skills: including communication and listening skills; multi-cultural awareness and cultural competency; and conflict and stress management.

  • Volunteering-related skills: including leadership; civic responsibility; and engagement and active participation.

Beyond the learning opportunities provided by UNV, the host agency will support knowledge and capacity development in the technical areas that are relevant to the UN Youth Volunteer’s assignment. The host agency will provide, at its expense, UN Youth Volunteers with equal opportunity to participate in training courses and workshops offered to its personnel.

UN Youth Volunteers should be between 18 and 29 years old throughout the duration of their service.
