Objectives

The intern will support the UNICEF Lebanon Education Section in processing, administering, querying, and managing data sources, to support visualizations to be used in reports, presentations, infographics and other documents.

Background

The fundamental mission of UNICEF is to promote the rights of every girl and boy, everywhere, with equity. The Education Section seeks to achieve this by promoting multiple and flexible pathways in education that take into consideration individual characteristics and common goals. Interventions that lend themselves to this approach require evidence-based programming. As part of its mission, the Education Section supports the government of Lebanon and its partners in collecting, processing and analyzing data to produce this evidence. Optimal use of this information can only be achieved if queried correctly, visualized in a user-friendly manner, processed systematically, and archived efficiently. The officers responsible for using the evidence in programming need to maintain a strategic approach towards evidence-generation and do not always have the time or knowledge of the software necessary for the processing and visualization of the data. For this reason, an intern is being recruited to provide, under the supervision of the Information Manager Officer, the support to the members of the Education Section in these endeavors.

Scope of work

Under the supervision and guidance of the Information Management Officer, the intern (or interns) will:

• Support the IM officer in cleaning, managing, processing, and archiving the data that has been collected by the education section.

• When appropriate and with adequate technical support, assist in statistical analysis, visualization of data, production of tables and preparing data for infographics and reports.

• Provide support to members of the Education Section in the use of the software required to process, analyses and visualize data.

• Assist in the compilation of education results, data, and reports.

• Support in producing charts, datasheets and visuals based on the data archives.

• Support in the review of the publications to extract relevant data and trends and feed archives of the extracted data.

• Support in knowledge management products (produce summaries of all major projects undertaken by the section’s programme officers).

Deliverables and Schedules

The intern will provide every month a log of her contributions, which will include, but might not be limited to the following:

• Visuals and graphs.

• Data sets that have been cleaned, labeled and archived.

• Data processed to produce tables, reports, infographics or others.

• Support provided to team members in the processing, analysis or visualizing of data for infographics, presentations, reports or others.

• Consolidating data sets, either by extracting information from other sources, by merging other data sets or by creating sub-sets of larger data sets.

• Summarizing / registering publications and data sources produced by the government and partners.

• Support the archiving in the Enterprise Content Management (ECM) archive in Sharepoint.
