ROLE PURPOSE:

The Education Coordinator will oversee the planning and implementation of the Education projects in the East Area Office and ensure that the education intervention is of a high technical quality.

This includes continuous capacity building of non-formal education for Save the Children (SCI) and partners’ staff through systematic trainings, supervision, and coaching. The role holder is expected to pay particular attention to aspects linked to child protection and participation, ensuring that rights of all children are respected at all times in a safe and friendly learning environment. The Education Coordinator is expected to dedicate 50% of work time in the field.

CHILD SAFEGUARDING:

Level 3: the post holder will have contact with children and/or young people either frequently (e.g. once a week or more) or intensively (e.g. four days in one month or more or overnight) because they work in country programs; or are visiting country programs; or because they are responsible for implementing the police checking/vetting process staff.

Budget Responsibilities: as per SCI scheme of delegation.

Role Dimensions: Save the Children different sectors, Education Specialists, beneficiaries, local authorities/communities and stakeholders, partners, local and international NGOs.

KEY AREAS OF ACCOUNTABILITY:

Programme implementation/management

  • Work closely with the Education and child protection Programme Manager to plan and oversee the timely implementation of Education projects in the Beqaa;
  • Communicate programme objectives and activity plans to SCI staff and other stakeholders;
  • Lead SCI Education to implement quality and relevant education programmes as per assessments’ results and as per tools and guidelines developed by the PDQ team;
  • Identify areas of implementation according to field’s needs through outreach activities and coordination with other education actors;
  • Provide educators in SCI and partners’ learning centres with the relevant curricula, including objectives and expected learning outcomes and ensure they are following SCI education standards; and
  • Contribute to donor reports and ensure that internal reporting is of quality and following SCI processes.

Programme design/development

  • Lead the monitoring and evaluation process of the non-formal Education activities;
  • Feed into the design of activities according to implementation lessons learned and community feedback, working closely with the PDQ team/Education Specialist; and
  • Regularly visit programme sites to ensure that parents and the community at large are appropriately supported and qualitative and quantitative programme objectives are achieved.

Team management and capacity building

  • Identify staffing needs and participate in the recruitment processes for the Education programme in the Beqaa Region;
  • Support the educators’ recruitment process and lead on it when relevant;
  • Take accountability of own and team’s performance and development following SCI Develop to Perform guidelines;
  • Willing to be trained as a Master Trainer as per programme needs and to deliver Training of Trainers for SCI and partner education staff, as well as delivering trainings for field level stakeholders including caregivers and community members when relevant, coordinating with the CO Education Specialist.
  • Provide SCI Education staff with capacity building trainings as per performance management and needs.

Partnerships management

  • Facilitate induction and training sessions, and roll out the capacity building plans for SCI partners;
  • Ensure that data is accurately collected by partners and reported according to the provided guidelines;
  • Support the programme team of partner organization in implementing operational work plans and setting clear targets and activity plans per programme sites;
  • Clearly communicate targets, programme objectives and activity plans to partners and focal points;
  • Control and support implementation of compliance requirements; and
  • Oversee and work with partner’s staff to review monthly progress reports.

Coordination and External relationships/Representation

  • Represent SCI in coordination meetings and forums in the Beqaa Region and be an advocate for children’s right to access quality and inclusive education;
  • Build and maintain positive relationship with (I) NGOs, local governance structures, and relevant UN agencies;
  • Work closely with the PDQ team and share regular feedback on Education Programmes in Bekaa.

General

  • Ensure that SCI activities are implemented in accordance with SCI policies, SCI Education strategy and MEHE’s guidelines and frame works;
  • Comply with Save the Children policies and practices with respect to child protection, code of conduct, health and safety, equal opportunities and other relevant policies and procedures.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Minimum bachelor’s degree in education, Social Science, or other related fields.
  • Fluency in written and spoken Arabic and English.

EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS

Essential:

  • At least five years’ experience in education.
  • Good understanding of quality education, including child-centred, inclusive, and active learning methods.
  • Good planning and reporting skills.
  • Excellent MS Office skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication and presentation skills. Prior proven track record in successful coaching is an asset;
  • An understanding of formal and non-formal education and Education in Emergencies.
  • Ability to analyze information, evaluate options and to plan strategically;
  • Proven track record in managing teams and timely and quality delivery of educational programmes.
  • Demonstrated ability to analyze qualitative and quantitative data and to develop data bases and data collection tools.
  • Commitment to and understanding of Save the Children’s aims, values and principles including rights-based approaches.

Desirable:

  • Experience working at community level with a wide range of stakeholders.
  • Prior experience as a Master Trainer and/or in capacity building or coaching of educators.
  • Prior teaching experience.
  • Prior experience in a similar position with a local or international NGO.
