Signpost and Julisha.Info Signpost is an innovative digital initiative providing the humanitarian community with a platform to reach refugees, asylum seekers and crisis-affected communities in Kenya with accessible information. Julisha.Info is part of the IRC’s Signpost Project that takes a holistic approach to address information needs in Kakuma, Hagadera (Dabaab) and Nairobi. Julisha.Info is a useful information resource for people in need, fosters more in-depth community trust, and, most importantly, more utility for its users.

Job Overview: IRC is seeking an Editorial Officer, based in Nairobi under the direct supervision of the Protection Manager and will support the Signpost teams in Hagadera, Nairobi, and Kakuma refugee camps.

The Editorial Officer will support the Julisha.Info editorial team to produce accurate, relevant, and up-to date information.

Major Responsibilities

- Contribute to content development in line with Julisha.Info objectives. - Develop accurate, relevant, informing, easy to understand and engaging content for publishing on Julisha.Info website and facebook page. - Prepare multimedia content for publication on Julisha.Info platforms using Canva, and other digital tools. - Assist the Senior Editorial Officers and the Roving Service Mapping Officer to publish relevant and appropriate content on Julisha.Info. - Contribute to the designing and implementation of information campaigns on need basis. - Provide technical guidance, on job mentoring and coaching for the moderators. - Ensure ongoing training and targeted capacity building of Julisha.Info moderators. - Review performance of Moderators and provide encouraging/ innovative approaches to address issues identified. - Working closely with the senior editorial officers and the protection manager, coordinate Julisha.info meetings and represent IRC in relevant meetings. - Where and when applicable, ensure work plans, spending plans and procurement plans are developed and implemented appropriately. - Develop and manage the Responsive Information Services budget, ensuring regular tracking, including participation in Budget verses Actuals (BVA) review meetings.

Key Working Relationships

Position reports to: Protection Manager­ Position directly supervises: Moderators Other Internal and/or external contacts: IRC Protection officers, Julisha.Info teams (Service mapping officer, senior editorial officers and moderators) in Nairobi, Kakuma and Hagadera

Qualifications Work Experience:

- Approximately three years of meaningful experience in writing, editing, sub-editing, web content management and publishing. - Experience in digital content creation such as articles, videos and infographics - Working knowledge of graphic design and editing software (Canva, Lumen5 etc.)

Demonstrated Skills and Competencies

- Strong writing and proofreading skills with passion for writing - Web content management with Knowledge of online content best practices. - Knowledge and experience of managing websites and social media platforms - Working with forced migrants (refugees, asylum seekers) and refugee hosting communities is an added advantage

Education

- Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field (e.g., Journalism, Communications, Media, Public Relations)

Language Skills

- Advanced English and Kiswahili language skills, oral and written. Knowledge of Arabic and/or Somali languages is an added advantage

Preferred experience & skills

- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, overall ability to be clear and concise in all communications - Ability to prioritize and deliver on time - Ability to work both independently and in a dynamic, cross-functional team - Proficient in Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint etc.)
