You have:

  • Master’s degree in development related studies, journalism, communication, or related fields.
  • 10 years of relevant experience in editing and graphic design.
  • Previous experience working on reports of similar nature within the UN or other international organisations.
  • Must be a reputable graphic designer with prior experience designing similar projects.
  • Expert knowledge of one or more publishing and typesetting programmes, such as Adobe Creative Cloud Suite Applications.
  • Fluency in English, both oral and written, is required.
  • Understanding of UNDP’s publication policies/guidelines is an asset.

Background

UNDP South Sudan’s Access to Justice, Security and Human Rights program contributes to strengthening the rule of law and human rights and creating the conditions for people to experience peace and security, enjoy their human rights and actively fulfil their societal roles. The program builds on past gains from the previous project and responds to emerging priorities under the R-ARCSS. Working at national level and in eight states, with priority being placed on the people and states that are most affected by the conflict, the program supports national partners to address the drivers of conflict and build resilient communities through strengthening capable institutions that can resolve disputes quickly and fairly, empowering groups of vulnerable people to claim their rights peacefully, increasing safety and security at community level, establishing transitional justice mechanisms to effectively address past abuses and building a national human rights system to stem further human rights violations. The 3-year programme contributes to UN Country Framework Outcome 1 “Strengthened peace infrastructures and accountable governance at the national, state and local levels” and UNDP Country Programme Document (2019-2021) Output 1.2 “Institutional capacities and customary mechanisms at all levels strengthened to monitor, promote and protect citizen's rights and increase access to justice, especially for vulnerable groups and SGBV survivors.” During the program’s cycle, documenting its activities, results and returns from investments made in strengthening access to justice, enhancing security and promoting human rights in South Sudan is an important exercise that should be undertaken regularly. To fulfill this objective, UNDP South Sudan is seeking the services of a highly experienced editing and graphic designing professional with advanced skills in writing, editing and designing corporate reports and publications to support the fulfilment of the documentation process for the project’s activities in 2020. The consultant will be responsible for editing and designing the 2020 Annual Report for “Support to Access to Justice, Security and Human Rights Strengthening Program in South Sudan” project (hereafter referred to as the Program Annual Report 2020).

Duties and Responsibilities

Scope of Work:

Under the supervision of the Access to Justice Programme Manager in the Country Office, the consultant will be responsible for the following;

  • Implement UNDP’s publication and branding policy related to print and online publications;
  • Ensure that all publications, reports and products are produced in line with UNDP graphic guidelines;
  • Deliver high quality, creative and innovative ideas for print, electronic, web-based corporate reports, long publications, and brochures;
  • Improve and edit artwork, photos, charts and other graphic elements from submitted text; and
  • Custom photo editing (restoration, noise reduction, tonal adjustment) from UNDP supplied photos;

Specific tasks for the designer will be as follows;

After receiving the final text for the publication, the consultant will:

  • Submit the preliminary layouts for discussion with the Access to Justice Programme Manager
  • Revise the selected layout as discussed with UNDP
  • Design and layout the publication based on feedback
  • Submit the publication to UNDP South Sudan for proofreading (2 rounds of corrections to be covered under the agreement)
  • Ensure all corrections are inserted after every round of corrections
  • Obtain a final sign off from UNDP before submitting electronic files; files to be sent to the printer and another (pdf) to be uploaded on to UNDP website.

Deliverables:

The following 3 deliverables will be required for completion of this consultancy:

  • Editing Annual Report text
  • Reviewing the draft text of the project Annual Report, editing it to making concise, results oriented and removing any grammatical or typographical. errors.
  • UNDP will submit finalized text and images for use during the design.

Designing of the 2020 Project Annual Report

  • Graphically designing in not more than 50 pages, the report detailing activities of the project within the first year of implementation. UNDP will share its corporate publication guidelines to be followed during the design. The consultant will apply their judgement in selecting suitable images to be used. Tables and graphs will be created whenever required.

    Designing of portfolio and project-level flyers/brochures

  • Design a single or double paged infographic highlighting the projects essential information and results during the year under review. The infographics will be used as a quick go-to reference point to describe the project and its returns in South Sudan.

Candidates obtaining a minimum of 70% (49 points) of the maximum obtainable points for the technical criteria (70 points) shall be considered for the financial evaluation. Financial Evaluation - Total 30% (30 points).
