You have:
- At least 5-7 years of professional experience in editing and proofreading publications, reports, research papers and other communication materials.
- Demonstrated experience in editing complex research, policy and technical documents.
- Excellent attention to detail and commitment to high editorial standards.
- Familiarity with United Nations editorial guidelines, style standards and publication processes is desirable.
- Excellent command of written and spoken English.
- A university degree in Editing and Publishing, Translation, Technical Writing, English Language, Communications, Journalism, Law, International Relations, Political Science, Social Sciences or a related field.

The main objective of this Online Volunteering assignment is to support the editing of UNICRI publications, research outputs, policy papers and presentations. The assignment contributes to UNICRI’s efforts to generate, disseminate and promote knowledge on crime prevention, criminal justice and emerging security challenges.
Publications may cover topics such as organized crime, illicit trafficking, preventing and countering violent extremism, cybersecurity, risk mitigation, social cohesion and community resilience.
Through research-based publications, articles and public information materials, UNICRI seeks to strengthen understanding of complex crime and security issues, facilitate knowledge-sharing among practitioners and policymakers, and raise awareness of effective approaches to prevention and response.
This assignment supports the quality, accessibility and dissemination of UNICRI’s knowledge products, contributing to the Institute’s mandate to advance justice, crime prevention and security for peace, sustainable development and the protection of communities.
The Online Volunteers will support the editing and proofreading of English-language research reports, policy papers, presentations and other knowledge products (approximately 50 pages) related to crime prevention, security and criminal justice, ensuring clarity, accuracy, consistency and adherence to United Nations editorial standards.
The assignment will involve:
- Editing and proofreading documents for grammar, spelling, punctuation and formatting.
- Enhancing readability, logical flow, clarity and consistency of terminology, references and style.
- Reviewing content for coherence, accuracy and alignment with United Nations editorial standards.
- Liaising with authors to clarify ambiguities and address editorial issues.
