Edit and proofread reports and articles related to asset recovery and cybercrime.

You have:

• Experience in writing, editing, and preparing communication materials.
• Experience in conducting complex research, policy.
• Strong ability to edit technical and complex content accurately.
• Excellent attention to detail to ensure high-quality editing and proofreading.
• Familiarity with United Nations editorial guidelines and style standards.
• Proficiency in English.
• A degree in Editing and Publishing, Technical Writing, Creative Writing, English language, Communication, Journalism, International Relations, or other related field, such as Social Sciences or Political Sciences.

The main objective of this assignment is to edit two reports: Good Policies and Practices for the Social Re-use of Recovered Assets and How Serious Organized Criminals Exploit Digital Trust Pathways. In addition, the incumbents will support the editing of articles for the forthcoming issue of Freedom From Fear Magazine, titled The New Criminal Code: Deciphering Emerging Threats in Cyberspace.

Asset Recovery These tasks support UNICRI’s work in the field of asset recovery, with a specific focus on the social re-use of recovered assets. The aim is to enable policymakers and practitioners to adopt and implement practices tailored to their respective jurisdictions and, most importantly, to ensure that recovered assets are channelled back to the citizens most affected. Social re-use is an essential phase in the asset recovery cycle and one of its inherent goals: ensuring that recovered assets are liquidated or otherwise effectively used to assist victims or address urgent development needs in areas such as healthcare, education, and employment. When implemented transparently, this process strengthens public confidence in the rule of law, including in communities historically affected by organised crime, or in contexts where trust in the justice system has been eroded.

Cyber Threats These tasks will also contribute to enhancing knowledge of key threats by analysing different typologies of vulnerabilities and the modus operandi of cybercriminals across the digital space. Particular attention will be paid to the systematic manipulation of fundamental internet components, such as domain names, uniform resource locators (URLs), and web traffic systems, which increasingly underpin a wide range of illicit activities targeting governments, the private sector, and civil society. In this regard, strengthening cybersecurity and building resilience against evolving cyber threats remain critical priorities, in line with UNICRI’s work on cybercrime, cybersecurity, and the responsible use of emerging technologies.

Overall Alignment with UNICRI’s Mandate Both areas of work align with UNICRI’s mandate to promote justice, crime prevention, and security for peace and development. UNICRI also produces and disseminates public information materials to raise awareness, share knowledge, and engage stakeholders.

Edit reports and other materials in English to correct grammar, spelling, punctuation, and formatting errors and to ensure accuracy, clarity, cohesion, and conformity with United Nations standards

1. Editing and Proofreading - Report on Asset Recovery

Edit and proofread the report "Good Policies and Practices for the Social Re-use of Recovered Assets and How Serious Organized Criminals Exploit Digital Trust Pathways" (70 pages – A4 format): • Ensuring clarity, coherence, and accuracy, and adhering to UN editorial guidelines. • Perform final checks to correct grammar, spelling, punctuation, and formatting errors. • Conduct research to ensure the accuracy and coherence of content. • Ensure that the edited reports (including footnotes and infographics) is properly formatted and aligned with the original document. Collaboration and Communication: • Collaborate with authors (via online meetings or email) to clarify ambiguities and rectify substantive errors. • Liaise with graphic designers during the proofreading stage to ensure accuracy and layout consistency.

2. Editing and Proofreading Report on Cybercrime and Cybersecurity

Edit and proofread the report "How Serious Organized Criminals Exploit Digital Trust Pathways": (50 pages – A4 format): • Ensuring clarity, coherence, and accuracy, and adhering to UN editorial guidelines. • Perform final checks to correct grammar, spelling, punctuation, and formatting errors. • Conduct research to ensure the accuracy and coherence of content. • Ensure that the edited report (including footnotes and infographics) and articles is properly formatted and aligned with the original document. Collaboration and Communication: • Collaborate with authors (via online meetings or email) to clarify ambiguities and rectify substantive errors. • Liaise with graphic designers during the proofreading stage to ensure accuracy and layout consistency.

3. Editing and Proofreading - Articles on Cybercrime and Cybersecurity

Edit and proofread the articles of the new issue of Freedom From Fear Magazine, titled "The New Criminal Code: Deciphering Emerging Threats in Cyberspace", (23 articles, 3 pages each in A4 format, including: • Rewriting, abridging, and restructuring texts and selecting appropriate pictures to enhance readability and logical flow. • Perform final checks to correct grammar, spelling, punctuation, and formatting errors. • Conduct research to ensure the accuracy and coherence of content. Collaboration and Communication: • Collaborate with authors (via online meetings or email) to clarify ambiguities and rectify substantive errors. • Liaise with graphic designers during the proofreading stage to ensure accuracy and layout consistency.
