The Japan Office manages a dynamic portfolio of activities designed to address key priorities in Japan and globally by connecting leaders in Japan with their international counterparts. Working in close collaboration with government, business, innovators, academia, cultural leaders, and civil society, the Japan Office advances solutions informed by Japan’s unique experience and supports the country’s thought leadership in shaping both regional and global agendas.

Breakdown of main responsibilities

  • Help conduct comprehensive stakeholder mapping to identify leading and emerging figures across all sectors in Japan, including business, government, academia, foundations, arts and culture, and potential YGLs (Young Global Leaders).

  • Support stakeholder engagement and management efforts to cultivate a robust, multi-stakeholder community, ensuring active participation from diverse sectors beyond traditional business and government, such as academia, foundations, and cultural leaders.

  • Support collaboration with World Economic Forum Centres to research and monitor the latest developments in policies and technologies at national, regional, and global levels, and contribute to the design and implementation of localized programs in partnership with internal and external stakeholders.

  • Support in facilitating cross-Centre collaboration mapping and coordinating cross-Centre discussions to advance new initiatives and events.

  • Support with the implementation of national-level Centre initiatives, including the Global Lighthouse Network with the Centre for Advanced Manufacturing and Supply Chains.

  • Prepare meetings and event logistics in close collaboration with the Event Operations specialist in Japan.

  • Provide day to day assistance and performing other tasks relevant to the team’s goals.

The successful candidate will be assessed on

Stakeholder Mapping

  • Quality and comprehensiveness of stakeholder mapping (accuracy, breadth across sectors, inclusion of emerging leaders and YGLs).

  • Proactivity in identifying new and relevant stakeholders.

  • Regular updates and maintenance of stakeholder databases.

Stakeholder Engagement and Management

  • Evidence of increased engagement and participation from non-traditional sectors.

Collaboration with Centre Teams and Program Development

  • Contribution to research and monitoring of policy and technology trends at national, regional, and global levels.

Cross-Centre Collaboration and Initiative Support

  • Effectiveness in supporting the mapping and convening cross-Centre collaborations.

  • Contribution to the successful launch or advancement of new initiatives and events.

  • Coordination and communication skills across teams.

Preferred Requirements and Experience

  • University-level education

  • 2 years of experience Maximun.

  • Knowledge and experience working with Japan stakeholders preferred

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills in English; Proficiency in Japanese is required

  • Strong organizational skills

  • Interest in technology and innovation, sustainability
