Work for the IMF. Work for the World.

ICD’s Institute Training Program (ICDIP) division has an opening for an Economist or Senior Economist, which can be either a fungible or specialist economist. ICDIP is responsible for managing, delivering, and overseeing the Fund’s Internal Economics Training program (IET), the external IMF Institute Training Program (ITP), and the IMF Online Learning Program.

The selected candidate will have an important role in managing and updating the IET program, which plays a critical role in building on and updating Fund staff’s first-class economics knowledge. In particular, the IET program supports staff in strengthening their analytical and quantitative skills and builds on their knowledge, helping them to efficiently carry out their day-to-day job, undertake cutting-edge policy analysis and research, and keep abreast of current economic thinking and issues of relevance to the Fund.

The selected candidate will play an important role in spearheading the new IET strategy’s implementation, coordinate the Open Forum series and other high-level training events, coordinate with internal and external training lecturers, and execute IET’s outreach plan. The new IET strategy continues to adapt training to the new policy agenda of the Fund, covering new areas of climate change, digitalization, inclusive growth, gender, and fragile and conflict-affected states. In the FY25 program, the IET agenda will also focus on strengthening training on forecasting and core policy analysis. The candidate will help develop the IET training agenda, coordinate the revision of the structured training curriculum for economists, and support the work of an Interdepartmental Advisory Group coordinating the work on the implementation of the IET strategy and related policies.

The selected candidate will also contribute to the development of new training modalities, including blended learning, for IMF staff and country officials, and may be involved in the delivery of ICD’s capacity development (training and technical assistance) of the department; their precise role will depend on their areas of expertise. The candidate will also contribute to the division’s work on facilitating knowledge-sharing and coordination among the Fund’s Regional Training Centers.
